Default ex tranny vs lx

I have a 2005 EX se that needs a new trans. I can find an LX trans for about 200$ cheaper than I can find an EX trans for.

My question is, will I lose a lot of torque or gain a lot of mileage by putting in the LX trans? I'm all about that gas mileage since I drive an ***-ton.. and this car is by no means a performance car anyways, but I dont want to lose an incredibly large amount of grunt?

Matt

You can forget having any power with an lx trannny... My friend had a ex and put a lx tranny in his car and in the city it got horrible gas mileage but on the highway it was great...

I thought LX were supposed to get better mileage than the EX?

If they do its not because of the trans. Of all the trans setups I've run (a lot) I get the best mileage with the lowest geared of all of them.

Oh and you mean city driving, of course? On the highway the shorter gears are probably not too good?

How did you get better mileage on the highway? What speed seemed to yield the best mileage?

Less throttle needed to keep it moving. Between 75-80mph depending on the weather.

This is not true. Depending on the car, the general rule is about 55mph gets the best MPGs because it is the best average of low throttle and least wind resistance. At 75mph you have 20mph more wind pushing against the car, thus reducing MPG... and I'm sure that if you had a throttle % readout it would read higher at 75 in 5th gear than at 55. However, a lot of this has to do with aerodynamics as well; a brick shaped is going to take more throttle to keep moving than a design like a Insight or Prius. But all things considered the same, IIRC, the best average is 55. I still do 70 though
edit: turns out that lower is better in general, period

Now we're getting into technicalities lol. Different motors require different rpm's for maximum mileage... such as 4cyl's can rev higher and still obtain better mpg, whereas v8's and above require low low rpm's to maintain better mileage.

You're absolutely right. Its not like I've run almost every gearing combo possible on a D series putting a few thousand miles on each setup while simultaneosly logging the mileage. My bad.

Well upon consideration due to this thread, I'm fairly certain I'll be getting a stock EX trans. Will hopefully be getting in within the next few weeks.
