Please identify These Cams! What to look for....Skunk2 Cams?
Hi-
I'm purchasing some used (40 miles total) Skunk2 Stage 1 Cam's online, but I have a few concerns. The seller is saying that these are new cams, but they are one of the first batches when the Skunk2 Stage 1's came out. I've heard aobut Skunk's earlier problems, but does anyone know if there's anything to look out for with the older cams? (Hopefully that makes sense). Basically, I don't want to buy these and have them snap. Next, here are some pictures of the cams, unfortuantely no identifying marks. Is there anything I should ask the seller about these cams?
Thanks Everyone!

Ken-
Am I thining about Skunkworkz old stuff being bad? Or are all/most of Skunk2's (considering they are the new division) products quality? He's had the cams in his car for only a total of 40 Miles and they have been just lying around since then.
ANYONE?

Whats this about Early Skunk2 Stuffs being bad?! The cams I got are the older ones from what I hear, so I want to know more about this.
What problems did Skunk2 have? I never heard of anything like this until now...

The old skunk stuff had bad batches in which case some would actually snap etc. The new stuff is better quality.
bad batches? Sorry, I don't know what batches are. Can you explain?

I heard the same rumor, only about Crower through a Crower Distributor after a customer snapped a set of 63403's in 2 places. Supposedly an entire batch (A quantity of anything produced at one operation; a group or collection of persons or things of the same kind; as, a batch of letters; the next batch of business. ``A new batch of shitty cams just waiting to ruin some poor saps motor knuckles.'' --Lady M. W. Montagu) missed a hardening stage, and was shipped regardless. I still might have pics, they looked like something you could've made with black clay, the entire surface looked rough and porous, very brittle... no polished contact points whatsoever.

oh ok. Thanks for clearing that up. Mine was smooth and looked identical with the pictures on http://www.skunk2.com so I guess I don't have to worry about it.
Ok I had the first batch that went bad and they didnt break. That was not the problem, it was chipping. The edges of the cam lobes would chip away causing the cam to act like a grinding wheel and cut up your rocker arms. I have lots of pics to prove this. I lost a motor to these cam. Now if you broke a skunk cam before dont flame me and flood me with emails because that was not the problem and you probably had a isolated inncodent.
Skunk worked with me for a long time to resolve the issue and make sure i was happy as well as getting me a new set of cams (and alot more free stuff)once they got everything straightened out.
Look on the cam lobe edges for chipping.
Since i bought toda cams in the down time I still have a brand new set of skunks if anyone is interested
I can do a package deal with cam gears, vafc, and erics racing t-body.

I just saw that they only have 40 miles on them
I would stay away if there the first batch, mine didnt start to chip until after several hundred miles.

Within a few hundred miles seems a bit excessive though. Maybe I'll call Skunk2 and see if they will tell me anything...
