Okay guys I think I finally found an LED turn signal bulb!
just a forewarning, they are EXPENSIVE as hell for $35 a pop..
but i figured i'll bite the bullet and order a pair and of course, post the results. they even make RED ones for taillights but i dont have money for taillight bulbs right now. but i'll still try the amber ones inside the tails anyway and show you guys the results..
in the meantime, here are some pics and link to their site so you can see what i saw

i have a good feeling about these! hopefully they won't let me down. i will post pics and video as soon as i get em!
UPDATE:
Okay I finally received the bulbs. Final verdict: *Not* brighter than filament, at least with this type bulb and my housing. There is a chance I could be getting better results had I chosen the "diffused" version of this bulb. I will be contacting the seller to ask if there is any chance I could exchange the bulb types. But as far as the brightness of the LED altogether, I am very impressed! I don't have any night pics, but I can actually see the LED light bounce off of traffic signs across the intersection when I'm at a stoplight!
Anyways, on to the pics:
Facing sun, blinkers OFF

Facing sun, blinkers ON - LED on left, filament on right - you can definitely see the light from the LED, but not as bright as the filament

Opposite sun, blinkers OFF - I used my hand to block the glare of the sun

Opposite sun, blinkers ON - LED on left, filament on right - you can see how the reflector on the LED bulb blocks light in the center of the blinker area

And as I promised, I went ahead and tried the amber LED inside my taillight housing:
Facing sun, brakes OFF

Facing sun, brakes ON - you can definitely notice the light from the LED, but not as bright as filament. Of course, the red is a little off-color since the amber from the led is more of a "rich" orange.

Opposite sun, brakes OFF

Opposite sun, brakes ON - in this pic you can definitely see the LED light output is not as bright as filament.

Although I am impressed with the brightness of the LED, I can't help but feel that I could be getting better results with the diffused lens bulb type, instead of the reflector bulb type.
Other things worth noting:
I did notice after taking the taillight pics, the LED bulb's metal housing was HOT. It does say on the package of the bulb that this amber LED is for SIGNAL, and not meant to be on constantly. I can definitely see why.
Also, I had previously mentioned the PWM circuitry these things supposedly utilize - well I didn't notice any strobe effect (in running/parking light mode [half intensity]), so if it really is pulsing, its too damn fast for me to notice it at all.
Discuss..

whats even more exciting (at least to me) is that it utilizes PWM (pulse width modulation) for the "running light" which means you get that cool (or annoying? lol) "strobe" effect like you see on the new Caddy's, Infiniti's, etc
Is there a resistor in them to properly trigger the signal blinker? The fact that I like about LED, especially for brake lights, is their near instantaneous response when electric potential is applied. Standard bulbs have about a 0.1s illumination lag.

but you can definitely tell when its blinking when it goes from dim to bright.

its a Borla muffler. #40060 Blow Torch model from their "Boomer" universal muffler series.
yes, it gets special attention when the car gets washed

it sounds good, not the loudest, but has a nice deep tone to it. barely any drone if at all while cruising, but i'm all stock underneath the hood.

okay i went head and sent them back to get the lens cap replaced with the diffused type. i just really don't like how a lot of my blinker light is blocked because of the reflective cap.
it blocks a lot more light than i thought it would, and it makes my blinker look gap-toof at night almost like i got two bulbs for the blinker.
when i get them back i will take more comparison pics!

eh looks about like the ones I tried from superbrightleds.com. IMHO they are nowhere near bright enough to be used in daylight, and could very well lead to a rear-end collision.
i am wondering if the red bulbs could actually be brighter or let more red light through..
maybe the diffused lens will make a difference? stay tuned patrick

no its the same i tried it all ready and you can mean tell there red and they are illegal to got a fix it ticket for it because red is only for emergency vehicles only so thats what the copper said

OP: I tried white vs. red LED bulbs in my brake lights. The red ones were slightly brighter, but nowhere near as bright as regular bulbs.
Really the only acceptable solution is a whole LED array directly behind the lens, custom-fitted of course.

Seriously, the only thing I'd want LED on my car is the license plate light, I really crave that IS350/E92 3series look.
Don't think people know about autolumination.com or superlumination.com, all you have to do is buy the bulb size and it hooks in to original location with no splicing or wiring. Lots of choices and fairly cheap as far as LED's go. Some are fully regulated as well, I use these LED's in my gauge cluster and instrument panel intsead of incandescent, with no issue either, much brighter!

In what jurisdiction is red illegal for tail/brake lights? Never heard of that before. That's what the OP was talking about in the post above.

well i never specified where and i ment for the front turn signals red is illegal not the brake lights
Clear bulb behind red lens, legal. Clear lens and red bulb, illegal.
I can't think of any real justification for it either.
And any red at the front of the car is illegal.
