Default B16 tranny or maybe 4.7 final drive in my GSR

Alright guys, so recently I've been thinking about maybe trading my GSR tranny for an SI tranny, just for a nice little subtle improvement. I've got a 95 gsr with just boltons, all stock internals and original tranny. I've also thought about the JDm 4.7 final drive. I don't drive it on the freeway or anything, so not worried about anything like that.

I was just wondering if either the 4.7 final drive or the b16 tranny would be worth it at all. I don't really want to build my engine right now or anything, and I'm anti boost. I love stock reliability but would love a nice little gain. What do you guys think?

I think either is a good choice, especially if you don't do much highway driving. If you do the 4.7 maybe look into an LSD while you have the tranny apart anyway.

The b16 tranny would be good because you can sell the gsr tranny and get a lot of your money back. Just make sure you know for a fact that there are no issues if you buy a b16 one, it would suck to replace a good tranny with a grinding one from some scammer (i know from experience here)

as long as you're staying N/A, go for it. But if you want boost later, you'll be wanting those longer gears.

I have the 4.78 final and its great on the street but on the freeway its horrible. but like you said your not driving on the freeway. As long as you are trying to go top speed then its great, fast off the line and quick through the gears.

I'd like to have LSD but I'm not going to track the car and I don't really drag race so the LSD for me would basically just be for bragging rights. I'm also never going to go boost so thats not an issue.

For those of you that have the final drive, or b16 tranny or both, How much do you really benefit?

Its quick as long as you aren't trying to drive far on it I like me, would rather have the 440 type r gears but hey that's just me.

You mean like long commute? yeah, I work about 2 miles from my house and the speed limit all the way there is 30. This would also give me an excuse to keep it off the freeway and keep the rock chips away!

the LSD changes the car. you have much better traction in bad weather, pulling out of corners changes. it's really a nice thing to have. in your case i would either do the 4.7 ring and lsd in your gsr box or just buy an ITR box. going to the b16 tranny is a slight improvement especially with the 1-2 shift. if you can do it for free it would probably be worth it.

THanks for all the input guys. I don't really want to spend the money on a type r tranny with LSD. I know the LSD is great but I don't need it.

Edit: What would be better, Final drive in my gsr tranny or b16 tranny?

I think I've decided on just doing the final drive on my gsr for now.

What I did on my old gsr motor was a B16 tranny with jdm lsd and jdm 4.785 final drive. It was great. My current itr tranny and 4.4 fd just isn't the same =*(.

Would the stock GSR tranny with 4.785 final drive be noticable and worth it? Thats what I really want to do but its hard to find people who have done it.

the lsd greatly improves traction in all conditions. one of the best upgrades anyone could do to a FWD. save your money for an ITR trans, don't half *** it. you'll get b16 gears and a stronger lsd diff not to mention a higher resale if the transmission goes to sale. you won't loose on it in other words

this is an awesome link on TI that shows what the 4.7 fd does for the gearing on a gsr tranny.

http://www.team-integra.net/sections...?ArticleID=708

I have a 98 spec itr trans with 4.7. Night and day difference with the final drive and lsd.
I couldnt stand the gearing on my stock gsr trans.
