Default 98 ITR build, retian P.S. or manual rack

Working on my 98 ITR theft recovery. I am doing a shaved engine bay and mild wire tuck. I have the engine bay and car completely stripped and ready for the body work. I have RS lines and prop valve ready to go on the reassembly so there will be no ABS, I do have an EG manual rack lying around the garage, was thinking of using it with the Quaiffe rack. Does anyone have any expierience with the Quaiffe manual rack in their ITR? Suggestions and comments on P.S. or not. Thanks, oh and I will be updating my resto thread with pics in a few weeks.

this is the 98 that I got a few years back, https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-type-r-8/brought-home-my-new-itr-sunday-1872361/ I ran into some cash issues and ended up putting it in storage untill I got some cash up to do it right, but I ended up selling my B18C5 motor,so I will end up putting my built B18C1 into it (close to 700 whp).

It amazes me that some ricer posts a pic of an RSX and there are pages of comments, When I post a real tech question asking for suggestions and comments there is notta one, where is this site going????

In the dumpster, its been there for a while.

Besides you're doing a wire tuck and shaved engine bay, shoulda left that part out.

Most ITR owners just loop the PS lines off the rack and call it a day. There are threads in the archives in the Road Racing/Auto-x section discussing the quaife manual rack parts though. Unless the PS rack is totally garbage I would not waste the time dropping the subframe for that.

u can also go the with the real time racing method...if u search im sure theres very good threads on it....essentially u just run the 2 lines to a vented resevoir so it acts like a manual rack but stays well lubed...ive heard just looping the lines together can feel weird because of air bubbles and it pressures up?? hope i helped a bit

I do not mind doing the work of swapping the racks and dropping the subframe, would rather do that than rig a power rack to act like a manual rack.
What I am looking for is input from any members who run a Quaiffe rack or a regular manual rack. and what does me shaving my engine bay have to do with anything?

i know the manual rack is more turns from side to side which is why realtime went the other route!

From my experience, I can tell you that the ratio in the itr rack is different to that of the manual eg/ek ones. The itr one is a lot sharper and equal if turned both ways.

Maybe I'm behind the times but this is the first I've ever heard of the Quaife rack. Whats the difference?
I've also never heard of dropping the subframe to changing the rack. I swapped mine pulling it out of the left side with a Del Sol manual unit.
I don't do the auto-xx thing so the lesser steering rosponse wasn't a big thing to me. Not to mention it freed up a good bit of room in the eng bay.

IMHO. Keep the ITR PS rack fully functional. What do you really gain by deleting it, save a little weight? If you drive the car on the street, just keep the PS system, the car is so much easier to drive. I've never had a problem with a PS rack at the track... maybe I'm just getting old.

Cheers from Geneva, Switzerland.

Maybe I'll put it back on at some point in time but I really enjoyed the feel of the manual and the room savings in the bay. Especially when cramming turbo components under the hood.

I have PS delete on my race car, and I could not imagine trying to drive that on the street. With the 700 whp motor you are using are you even going to notice any power loss? I'm sure you will notice the lack of power steering

You misread the op's intentions.

I am pretty sure that the OP's turbo manifold and turbo placement will not allow the PS pump to stay. 700 HP cars have a good sized turbo.

My R has been down for some time now but I drove around for a year or so on the manual rack. Yes it was harder to turn at a dead stop or a little stiffer at very slow speeds but once the car is rolling 12-15 MPH you really don't notice it.

1992 Toyota MR2 Turbo Electronically driven Hydraulic pump allows adjustability of how hard or soft the PS is. No parasitic loss because it isn't driven by a belt and won't be in the way of the turbo. I personally have snapped 2 PS lines on the road course. Contact Karcepts for a mounting bracket and hardware to install.
