Thinking about buying an S2k or EVO...
Well, let say that before you guys own your S2k. You had a chance to buy a S2k or Evolution MR8. What would you choose and why? This is what im debating on. I heard ppl who own S2k just simply loves their car and wouldnt give it up. Any suggestions?
what I would do is test drive both and then make a decision, but there are those people who can't make decisions for themselves and log onto forums to ask whether they should purchase an RWD 2 seater convertible or a AWD 5 seater sedan.
i have both an evo 8 and a s2000 and i do drive both of them all the time and if i were to choose 1 car it would it would be a hard choice but it would be the evo.
both cars handel well and i love the convertable and the s2000 looks like really nice. girls always love the s2000 and the evo will only impress guys
the problem with the s2000 if its your only car is that its really small and not practical and the biggerst problem is the car is a very very slow car in terms of acceleration and will always be slow unless you drop big bucks to boost it. but the s2000 does have a very unique drive experance to it which i love.
it really depends on what you want and what your looking for. In my opinion the s2k has the advantage in looks, style and it being a convertible is great to top it off. Plus i get an average of 23mpg in my s2k and i only average 17mpg in my evo.
The evo has practical for DD. It will give you ultimate performance for your $$$.
Persionaly i like HP which is why i chose the evo first. I also beleve you got to have AWD for big power. I been through big hp fwd and rwd and freeway burnouts get boring after a while.

I've never driven an evo 8 so I can't give an opinion on it but I can say that my s2000 is a blast to drive. Im using it as a daily till i can find a little beater to putt around in. Really though it will come down to personal preference. If you're the type of person that is always giving rides to people and carrying a lot of crap. Don't get the S. I don't like having a lot of people in the car with me (other than my wife) because I get too nervous, so the S is fine for me. Don't get me wrong you can fit stuff in there its just a matter or proper planning and working the space that you have. Or you can do like Im planning get and get a cheap fairly reliable daily and keep the S for fun times/weekends.
Also as far as doing mods to the S2000 (that is if you want to mod your car) you have to realize that its a very well engineered vehicle. You can tell Honda put in some extra hours pulling as much power as can be had out of these engines. So, if you want a ride that can pull lots of power out of boltons again, this isnt the car for you. You can get power out of redoing the exhaust etc but you're not doing to see uber drastic results for a cheap price. Like Riceball was saying boost is a completely different story. You can get those uber power and acceleration results but on average your gonna be spending anywhere from 3k-7k depending on if you go turbo or supercharger and also depending on what brand you go with. Most of which require some sort of engine management and tuning which is why I put such broad numbers there. So, like I said I can't say much on the Evo 8 but I have been researching and learn s2000 related stuff so I hope this kinda helps you on that side of things. Aaaand short story over...

I had an AP2 and after it got stolen I test drove an EVO X. the EVO X handled very nice for stock, mostly due to the sticky stock tires like the S has. it also send the power to different wheels to keep if from understeering, pretty cool. I liked the EVO X, I was going to buy it to replace my stolen S but they wouldn't give me the financing deal I wanted so I got something else.
The build quality on the S is much better then the EVO X that's for sure. on the EVO lots of the parts feel cheaper, the paint isn't as nice, the seat fabric (on the GSR) feels like a cheap race seat from Pep Boys. in the end it's not a deal killer, I was still going to buy it, but it's not as good as the S. the nice thing with the EVO's is that you can get 400whp with bolt ons and a tune
Mase gained 70 or 80whp on a bone stock one with only tuning the ECU and raising boost, not a single aftermarket part. plus with all the extra torque even though they're a little heavier than the S you don't really notice it. on the S unless you're ready to drop serious cash you're not going gain a lot of power with bolt ons. the lag below 3000rpm can be gay but it's not much worse than an S2000 below 3000 rpm

I hate these threads. Get an evo and call it a day. Its way more easier to make power with them and everyone on the street will know ur all about going really fast in a straight line cause u have a huge front mount loud exhaust and cool sounding bov. But than again everytime I see some one like that drive by I think they r a douche

every car is going to have owners that are cool and owners that suck, it's just the way it is.
Ask the dealer if you can borrow the car for a day! (they offered that on one of the S2000's i was looking at as i was ready to buy right then). S has no interior room, minimal cabin storage(in place of a glove box we have a shelf the size of my wallet). I work at home, stores, restaurants etc are all 1/2 mile from my house(walking distance). So driving is purely joy for me and the gf. So we didn't need a big spacious car. Took a road trip (3hours there 3 hours back on memorial day) and it was cramped after 2 hours we did get out to stretch so our asses would get sensation back
. Test drive cars, borrow cars, find out what works best for you! I was considering an evo or an m3, and driving the S just has a fun feel to it!
And MPG wise, I average 25-26 with top down and ac on! (nice considering i got 18-21 in my acura CL, and i drive this a lot more aggressively).

If I had to do it again, I'd go for an STI/Evo instead of the S2K. Don't get me wrong, the S2000 is a great car but I really don't think it's for me.
It's hard to dislike the STI -- fast, four doors, 4WD, and pretty reliable if you just treat the car right. I'm not a big fan of the Evo's interior, and that is a huge negative in my mind.

Yeah S2000 isn't for everyone! thats why i suggested a 24hour from the dealer if they will allow it. Me and the woman fell in love with it, and now she wants us to pick up a second one haha. But we don't chaffer at all, if we travel we travel light. We live close to everything (within 1/2 mile).
i was looking into getting an evo8, but i know for a fact everyone i look at has had the dog **** beat out of it and its not the most reliable car in the world
if you need practicality or speed (for cheap) go with the Evo
if you want a car that is a blast to drive and one that you won't get sick of, get an S2000
personally I plan on boosting my S so I can have the best of both worlds (minus practicality which I don't need)

i would say so sir
Out of the 4 cars i have owned, i have dogged the **** out of everyone...and never had any issues till i bought a honda.
OP, i have personlly driving a evo 8 mr and liked it, it didn't perform like i expected though
They are actually excellent handling cars, especially for being sedans. Infact there is a video out where it beats the ariel atom through a slalom.
Someone has said it before though, it is a $10000 car with a $15000 drive train. The interior qaulity is pathetic. If i could do my s2000 purchase over again i would of went with an m3.

seriously???
why even debate this in a s2k thread? why not go to a non-biased forum where people own neither or try something yourself? actually research the product then drive both cars for yourself. don't let other people decide for you.
have a nice day.
exactly
when is the last time you saw a EVO w/ 100k+ miles on it be able to run factory times still without any kind of rebuild or major fixing?

no need to be an *** S2killa- I frequent S2ki not here..
either way I used to own an 04 wrx w/ a ton of mods it had around 360 chp so it would be like the evo in terms of 4 sports sedan and I would take the S2000 every time. Sure I miss the straight line speed it had, the S outhandles it by alittle, but the feeling you get driving the S doesn't compare. It's a drivers car and a true sports car with no compromise.
Test drive both is the best answer anyone can give, but imo you will get sick of the evo faster than the S
