Default my first time building a all motor header...

Hey guys, I've never posted in the All Motor forum, I'm pretty much a turbo guy. So anyways, I wanted to pop my all motor forum cherry with a pic of the header I am building for my sandrail. I still need to fab my merge collector and weld on the custom muffler I made, but you get the idea. The motor will have ZC pistons, some kind of cam (advice please) and I'll port the head. Other than that I'm gonna leave it alone (its just my toy)...well maybe I'll throw a VTEC head on it???

Now where you gonna go??? IMO you should have mirrored the thing and gone under the pan.

my shift linkage runs under the pan, so that wasn't an option. I am actually more than likely going to take all the primaries and flip them 180 degrees (they will go up instead of down, and face the other dirrection). Reasoning for that is the way the header is now I think my trailing arms will make contact with the header. I didn't have my sandrail at the shop with me when I was building these :-( My bad, but it I tried them flipped and it looks frickin' sick!

BTW: I will be making a very similar header for a b-series, it will kick out the other dirrection (towards the passanger side, like a HyTech side exit). My plan is to have a vband flange just after the collector, and provide a straight piece with a turn down (for race days), and a 90 degree bend to pass under the oil pan to hook up to existing exhaust (for daily driving). Interested?

for those interested, I finally got a chance to finish this header last weekend. It looks pretty wicked, fo sho your not gonna find another one like this for a d16 :-) Oh, 1 3/4" primaries, merge collector (the real deal), 2 1/2" after the collector, and my custom shortened CBR929 muffler :-)

I like this idea. A Lot. How much do you think you would be able to make them for. I would be willing to be your guniea pig if you could work out a decent price. I am in the middle of finishing up the Bottom end of my 2.0L GSR. I hope to have the whole thing together before the end of the summer. The car will be on a dyno when the engine goes in so you would be able to get some numbers. LMK if you are interested.

im intrested in the header that you plan to build for b16's pm me so we can talk, that header looks sick, but like someone said id deff make a brace for it sence its going on a sand rail, i'd try to make some sort of brace then a rubber exhuast hanger, cause its going to vibrate and bounce around when you launch the sand rail off some jumps, id get a cam that makes peak horsepower, as 4-1 headers usally make more top end. and you said you plan to port the head, have a high compression screaming sand rail, what type of chasise are you using ?

yeah, I am bracing it to the frame, I'm thinking to use some kind of urethane bushing, so that it isn't solid mounted...to be determined at this point. I'll figure it out this weekend.
Those of you interested in one for a B-Series, I will be building one real soon, so stay tuned :-). Actually, I think I will be building two, I have two guys locally who are very serious about buying one. Both will be hitting the dyno for results. I do love people who follow through and do the tuning! Hit me up if you want on the list.

thats wicked. As far as motor recommendations,Since its a race motor there is really no need to go with a VTEC head, just get a nice fat cam and make sure your intake mani is either a z6 or get a y8 one. That with some minor port cleaning up and a good VJ will be all you need to make some decent power

I'm gonna go with the set of ITB's that I built. I would like to find a nice cam for it, doesn't seem like there are a lot of options out there for the a6. I also need to get a tune on it, which might be a little hard with the paddles tires on the dyno :-) I think this year I will try that out, D16, port work, cam, itbs, this piece of crap header :-), some hi comp ZC pistons, and a tune...then next year pull the turbo'd H22 out of the corner. I'll post some good/complete pics of my sandrail within the next couple of weeks. Stay Tuned.

ahhh ok ITBs will be fun. As for the cam, look into exospeed or bisimoto. They both offer good options for the a6.

Just sold the itb's this morning :-( guess I'm gonna have to build another set, or build myself a intake manifold....stay tuned.

buy a blox, cut open the plenum and port the sh*t out of it. if you look at the castings, the blox is much thicker than the skunk mani so its a better starting point IMO to do portwork on.
