look for falken ziex 912 i think they are called, somethin like that, will probably be cheaper than what u want to spend. the 912's are much better than the 512 they used to have. and run a 225/45.

pretty steep order for tires to last 25k unless you drive like a grandpap. Look for a tire that has the highest treadwear rating you can find. That is the number that represents tire longevity. Anything over 400 or 500 will be your best bet. The highest I've seen is about 600. It is right on the face of the tire.

And why run the 225/45/17? You will be traveling slightly faster than your speedo reads which means you will have actually traveled farther that your odometer reads. So by running these tires you will think you have not gotten great mileage from them. You will be going about .2 percent faster than speedo reads

changing the width of the tire doesnt affect how ur speedo reads...

No but the second number is called the aspect ratio. So you kept the same aspect ratio but with a wider tire therfore increasing the overall diameter of the tire which does affect the speedo. 45% of a 225 is more than 45% of a 215. That number means the sidewall is 45% of the width of the tire.

To get the diameter of your tire takeaspect ratio) .45 x tire width then multiply that by 2 then divide that by 25.4 to get back to inches then add that number to your wheel diameter to get the overall diameter.

Exactly. The aspect ratio is not universal. A ratio of 45 on a 245 and a 345 contact patch would be conpletely different.

Get the 225's because you own a si. Someone who is rice does not give a crap about their speedometer being off by 1-2 miles per hour. Do not use the treadwear rating as guide since the department of transportation lets the tire manufacture decide what number to assign within 200 points. I would recommend the falkens if you cant afford anything else but there are so many better tires out there. 25000 miles on a tire like the Michelin PE2 is actually pretty high for a tire that grips the road like that one. You get what you pay for so buy wisely, remember if you have never heard of the brand before they most likely are complete garbage. KARTMAN1 is going to be a professional bodybuilder/extreme hipster.

eehh, don't use the number disignated to represent tire wear charachteristics? I don't know about that buddy. I'd take my chances on using the treadwear rating as a guide to judging tire life.

If you listen to that guy he'd have you buying tires with the 100 treadwear rating and telling you that you will get 20k out of them! Haha great advice....eehh that number don't mean anything, they just put it on there for fun....dummy

I would use the treadwear number as a rough guideline when evaluating what tire to purchase. However, like others have already alluded to, try not to compare these numbers across different brands, because the DOT does not govern them as strictly as we are lead to believe. A treadwear of 300 to Michelin does not necessarily equate to a 300 on Pirellis or Falkens. So with that said, tread carefully.
