Engine Stall

So today I'm sitting at an intersection, waiting to make a turn. I see this car about 1/8 mile down the road, going maybe 45mph, so I sit there for a second. Of course this idiot does the, "I'm going to fly up to the intersection and then slam on the brakes right before it, to let the other cars go by, when it would have been much easier had I just kept going through the intersection"
So I throw it into first, hit the gas...nothing. Empty gas pedal. I look at the dash, no engine lights, no lights on the dash at all.
Question: Somehow my engine had stalled while not in gear, without producing any CELs or anything. Anybody know what could cause this?
Normal engine temperature, full tank of gas. It was as if somebody had turned the ignition off.
And of course immediately after this, upon changing to second gear, the shifter pops out of gear. FML

Loose terminals wont cause it to stall. the alternator runs the car basically after ignition.
but i have the same proble sometimes my car stalls. its usally when im about to stop n clutch in. i see the rpms drop below idle and the computer corrects it. but sometimes it just stalls. only difference with me is that all my cluster lights are on. i too have a CAI

if your alternator is functioning properly, you can run it until you run out of gas. If the car required battery voltage during operation, you would have to periodically have to recharge it.
Personal story: I had a dead battery (because my alternator went out). I took it to auto zone to get it recharged, but they couldn't finish charging it before they had to close, so they let me borrow their little jump-start battery pack.
I used that battery pack only to start my car for a few days before I had a chance to come back and pick up my battery. My car ran perfectly fine without a battery for days.
To answer the OP, I would agree with possible loose connections, or maybe a vacuum leak somewhere.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to determine the cause of the problem unless you can replicate it, so until it starts happening frequently, you're SOL. Just hope that it starts right back up every time, and make sure you're up to date with your AAA membershiop for emergency towing . . .
