I picked up some coilovers for my car (98 4 door teg) from some people on craigslist that had a wrecked 95 integra coupe for only 100 bucks. These are the ones that go over your stock struts. The problem is that one or two of them have a little surface rust. Is this terrible? Would it be bad to sand them down a little and repaint them?

 

what has rust on it? the spring itself?

 

Yeah a little bit. Where the Rubber wore off. Just surface rust though.

anyways if its surface rust only, you can try to handsand it off. as for painting it, you'd have to find a flexible paint that wont chip off as the spring compresses.theres also a paint that turns surface rust into primer.

 

I was wondering what rubber he is talking about, I have a set right now there is no rubber.

 

there is a rubber coating around the spring itself. its red rubber.

 

I thought they were powder coated. I would just sand and paint.
