Help w/ decision- Del Sol vs. S2000 vs.370z
Hey all,
Yeah, another 'what should I do post', but I'm really struggling over this one...
I've owned my Sol for NINE years, on my 4th engine. Currently it's:
Bone Stock B18B
GT3071/Inline mainfold/3" exhaust/10psi
Urathane suspension/15" tires/springs/shocks
Hondata/440cc/stock MAP
S80 transmission (Type R)
Car runs great, drives great... lots of wheelspin in 1st/2nd though.
In order to go to the 'next level' of power, I'll get head work, another tune, pistons/rods, 2.0l block, etc. I have no problem with this. But I'm really thinking before I sink that much $$ into my current car...
The Sol is my DAILY DRIVER (except snow), and I love it, noise and all. I would expect the whatever I end up with would be as well. I also AUTOCROSS the car several times a year, when I can.
If it was the S2000, I would tubocharge it for sure.
If it was the 370z, I'd wait to 2010 for the convertible, and turbo charge that sweet V-6.
Thanks for any opnion...

stock s2000's + boost = some insane numbers... if you built it, obviously you could go for even higher numbers... really depends what you want..
plus with the s, you get rwd

I am in your boat too, you have your toy to have fun whenever and however you want, now it's time to step it up and get something nice to have fun with too. the sol when it is built up is still going to be a sol no matter which way you look at it. the S2K get's my vote. definately different from what your used to, and a chick magnet....lol

i own an 03 s2k, and i am going to go f/i but i'm going with a kraftwerks s/c, you should check out s2ki.com lots of info there
s2k all the way. they pull insane numbers on boost and look better than a chickish del sol or the 370z. get on the spoon sports website and check out the spoon lip kits and hard top conversions. you'll fall in love.
Why put yourself in a position where you will have to make a payment and pay more for insurance? What do you pay now? Like $80 per month for insurance and no car payment?
Buy an S2000, or a 370 and you're going to have to pay at least $500 for payment, plus at least twice as much as your current insurance payment.
It's a no-brainer. Over the course of a year, you will have spent a difference of around $8,000.
Imagine what you could do to your Sol with 8 grand?
Even if you could pay cash for the new car, why bother if your car works fine and has been good to you?
I vote keep it...

aasarsak has a point. my civic is paid for and costs $75 a month for insurance and is reliable as hell. i take trips all the time. not to mention with all the doh i save i put atleast $500 worth of parts on it each month. and in todays economy its nice having your total monthly expenses as low as you can in case **** hits the fan.
i say keep the del sol.
if its treatin you good, dont abandon it.

Yep, and if you get laid off, no bank is going to even think about taking your Sol.
If you finance something new, De-Bo (bank) gone take yo shiet.

^^^ Second what he said. I'm in the works on building my hatch and know that its going to cost me roughly 6 grand to build it to meet my standards. I plan on just buying a 10grand car like a tc and using the civic as a track ****. IF i was you build the del sol to have fun and enjoy doing the auto cross and just get a basic but nice daily driver. To sell the del sol you won't get near to nothing and then add up the expence of the s2000 car payment, insurance, and atleast 5 grand just to boost it.
I think the S2K is the way to go. RWD, not nearly as expensive as a 370Z, and cheaper too. I love my hardcore modded cars, but I don't think I could ever do something as huge as turbo a factory N/A car while it's still under warranty.
I've got a money pit of a GTR, and wish I took all the cash that's in it and just bought a clean STi with a few mods and put the rest away for housing.
