Default Valve lash - Stock '08 Civic Si Motor GrandAm Racecar

I'm looking for some valve lash specs for a stock '08 Civic Si motor. Not stock settings, but the spec that should be used for a dedicated race car. Stock cams, and all stock internals.

I know there are some people that adjust when hot, cold or otherwise. Let me know your preference and spec. If you don't feel comfortable sharing, don't.

This car is running in GrandAm's Koni series, finished 11th @ Laguna this month but we're looking for a little more power to contend with the other Civics in the field.

Thanks in advance!

Erich

you guys had a best lap time of 1:44.024 during the race, where the highest finishing C360R car did a 1:41.740.

Honestly, leaving the valve lash at the manufactures spec is probably the best idea.

How about having the car tuned? You guys are running the stock ecu with a hondata reflash or k-pro right?

I saw your car at laguna. How come the rear swaybar wasn't connected?

For the first outing of the car I'd say it went pretty well. It's easy to compare best lap times, but that only accounts for one lap and not a race pace. We finished on the lead lap so we were obviously not that far off the pace. 2.3 seconds over the course of 79 laps is more than 3 minutes (or almost two laps) down, which we were not.

I cannot comment on the setup of the car as I am not in charge of that aspect.

The car does have a stock ecu with a Hondata (soon to be replaced hopefully) flash. It will be tuned as soon as we have the means to do so.

Right now we're working on the mechanical aspect of the motor, hence the reason for my post.

The new hondata flashpro device should help things out in the tuning department. Getting the full power out of the K20 motor really takes some good composite cam angle tuning. When I did this in the past, I jumped up ~ 8whp and 10trq from a basic Hondata tune on stock motor. I haven't purchased the flashpro for my 08 Si yet but will do the same tuning once I get my mods done.

About the valve lash, I'd get a hold of NIKOS on k20a.org. He knows his **** about these K20 motors. If he doesn't have the info, he'll know someone with the info you need.

Cheers

Hey, cool, thanks for that info. I'll hit him up. Good to know on the cam tuning as well. If you feel like sharing shoot me a pm, I'm sure it'd take me hours on the dyno to figure out the sweet spot on that.

We are looking into testing Cobb's solution as it is apparently available already in some limited quantities. We don't have time to wait for hondata as we already are mid-season.
