Falken RT-615 Drag PSI?
im running the car in the signature at a 1/4mile track soon, i got a set of falken RT615's 205/40/17, i was wondering for a 1/4 mile track what psi should i run? i have a hard time at 30psi grabbing all the way in first. any advise would be great.
17's are a bit big and not enough side wall. You won't get enough traction. Go 16" or even 15" with taller tires and 25psi. You may have to play around with the tire pressure for better grip.
You're going to have a very hard time getting these tires to hook like a slick or even a drag radial. RTs do have good grip, but not enough to launch a car without some tire spin at full throttle. Best thing to do is start as low as you can go maybe 20 psi or even 15 psi if you dare and see what happens. If you don't like the traction, go up a couple more pounds of air until you are satisfied. IF you still aren't happy you might have to move on up to a drag radial or go straight for a slick. I have 615s too and its all in throttle control when it comes to traction with theses tires.
very good info, thanks for all replies, they are very small on the sidewall. last question whats a good tire to run without going to slicks or drag radials?
