PAINT TROUBLE!!!!!!!
ok im going to be painting my civic ek soon and i would like to get some pros and cons on painting my civic black or yellow. ok heres a little back ground. my car was black but someone really didnt like and screwdriver the car all around. ok but i like the idea of painting my car yellow because i have a CF hood and trunk so they will standout more. but i wanted to know the pros and cons. like i heard black was the hardest to keep clean, but what about yellow? list somethings out for me so i have something to think on .Thanks
if your bodywork isnt perfect, black will show it....if your painter isnt awesome, black will show how badly they suck. If theres any dirt or contaminants in the paint or clear, it will stand out even more on black. If it has to be wetsanded and buffed, better make sure its perfect or black will show it. If you dont stay on top of your finish, black will let everyone know how much you suck at taking care of paint, swirl marks, scratches, etc.
Pretty much the opposite with yellow, its a brite color and can hide alot of imperfections, but if its crappy work, itll still show it up close. But itll look good from 10 feet, unless your a trained painter like me, precision or a few other guys on here and can spot crap work and shoddy finishes from a mile away. if you are getting your car done at a reputable shop you should be fine, if your getting it done at maaco, well ill let you see what 200 bucks gets ya. If your doing it in your garage and are new at painting, than i would highly suggest you stay away from black unless your ready to be dissapointed and want your car to look like this.
this looks like straight butt crack.

This is what you want black to look like. I welded and shaved a few holes and painted this the other day, ive been doing this a long time and work in a high end paint shop with great materials and a good paint booth, if you dont have the bodywork experience to make it perfect, good materials to spray, and a clean booth to paint in, your gonna be dissapointed. black is a magnifying glass for imperfections. it has to be perfect to look good. this is a small section, doing it on an entire car is even harder. even with all the advantages I still had to nib and buff like 3 little spots, sanding and buffing is just part of paint work, but the less you have to do the better.

as the owner of a jet black car i can tell you it's impossible to keep clean for more than a couple of days. every little thing stands out: bugs, stone chips, finger smudges, dust/pollen, bird caca. the worst is water stains because they have to be removed before you wax, but towel drying isn't the best idea for swirls. washing/waxing, for me, is a weekend-long ritual. i have to clay bar every 4-6 washes. i avoid car washes like the h1n1. after two years of owning it, i still wonder if buying a black car was the right decision. but, you're not looking for a lecture on how to maintain a car.
there's nothing sexier than jet black when it's clean. it has a certain depth that other colors can't match. because it reflects like a mirror, nothing remains hidden.
i agree 100% with the post above. if the resultant body work/paint job isn't absolutely perfect, select an alternative color.
