How long have you boosted your car for???
This might be a stupid question to ask, but how long have you boosted your car for? I have seen many people here build some crazy car with some amazing power, but they spend a lot of money and after they build a turbo car they enjoy it for about 1000-4000 miles then they get rid of it. They only ones that I have heard that they lasted a while were people that ran with a greddy turbo kit. I want to turbo my car and I was just wondering it anyone has reached a decent amount of miles with their turbo setup, like 30-50k or more.
thats not a bad question.. i have a gsr with slightly built head, stock bottom end. boosted 10psi for the past 7 years give or take, even ran nitrous for a year.. its a daily driver.. no problems yet other then replaceing turbo oil seals and the norm
oh yea i added a cometic head gasket to be safe last year. i've done a vtech solenoid gasket, tuneup, valve lash here and there.. basicly just routine stuff nothing ever major runing 12.01, 11.70 with the nitrous.. In my opinion, spend the money the right way the first time and u'll be ok

wow thats awesome, I didnt think people would be boosting for that long with no problems. That puts a smile on my face. I have an ls that I am trying to turbo, the past owner rebuild it back to stock. What do you guys recommend I should do before turboing it. I dont really want to tear down the block maybe a cometic headgasket and arp bolts. Now are cam gears nessary for tunning or advancing or retarding the timing?
My old stock block Rev-Hard Kit (.57 Trim) with a thick headgasket lasted from 02 to 06 running 15psi and racked up 50,000 miles on an SAFC before I decided to grenade her on a 5 minute Interstate top speed run using an LS tranny....lolz

The best thing you can do is make sure that the engine is mechanically sound. Check leakdown and compression tests, check your fuel filter, change your fuel pump if you haven't already. That's about it. start planning and getting parts..
this is a good question....... I could never understand why people put alot of money into there build, then dyno tune and about 1000/3000 miles give or take the car is up for sale......... I see it all the time
i think its more of how many miles now how long... some people put 5k miles on their car in one year others put 20k +miles on it... my car has been boosted for 18 months and it has about 34k boosted miles on it...
little over 10,000 miles stock internals with 10 psi Only problem i ever have is haveing to adjust my fuel output every couple thousand miles

Are there any shops that will do a leakdown test, I can do the compression test but I dont know about the leakdown. And if any of you guys got a leakdown test how much do they charged you for the test??

I have had my current engine running for about 4K miles. the engine that I blew(the last engine), I must say, about 30K and that was a junkyard LS that had grass growing out of it. that lasted me about 2 years+ and I was greedy, and wanted more power so that's why that went.
I put ~15k on my old stock d16 set-up in a little over a year. I've had my current set-up for 8 months and ~6k miles. It's my daily driver, but i do beat on it often.
Depends on the shop, but most should be able to. You would be better off finding a friend who owns a tested and a compressor and do it yourself. Most people don't come in to shops asking for just a cylinder leakage test, it's mainly used for diagnosing an engine runnability issue. I doubt most shops would charge much more than (.3 -.5) hour time for them to do it.
If you own an air compressor, check out Mac's leakdown tester, it's well worth the investment. Or you could try Harbor frieght's, which probably isn't very accurate. haha

had my stock ls on ten psi for about 2 years, about 50,000mi still feels like the day it was tuned, never any major problems
what I want to hear is from people with built motors and 15+psi, I wonder how long those are lasting?
