Swap AUTO transmission case or is it ruined??**PICS**
I was putting in an automatic transmission in my civic ('89 ef). I have never done an auto transmission so I tried to read up on it as much as I could, but I guess I went wrong somewhere.
I got the old one out, and proceeded to put the new one in. I turned the torque converter around a little until it snapped in. I got it lined up and started to put the bolts in. It didn't look like the back dowel was lined up or something because it wasn't going together right. So I took the bolts out and tried to situate the tranny differently to make the dowels go into the block. I thought I had everything lined up right so I stared to tighten everything down...
The bolts were ALOT harder to go in than other manual transmissions were, but I thought it was just something special that the automatic transmissions did. It was starting to get pretty tough to put the back bolt in when all of a sudden i hear a "POP". I wasn't sure what it was so I kept going. It was still pretty tough then I hear another "POP".
I go up to the top to put the top bolts in some when I see theres a massive crack all the way down the transmission housing.

I read that I may have just not put the torque converter on correctly before installing the transmission. I have also read that the transmission maybe be completely ruined now.
Is it possible to swap the transmission housing for the old tranny? I've done numerous manual housings, but never an auto. Theres no plug at the end of the tranny for the clip to be removed from.
Anyone who has experience with this, please help me out!
Thanks!

You put THAT trans in? Thing is filthy!
You can swap out the cases...Honda AT's arent as easy as MT's, but with a good manual and memory/patience, you'll be just fine.
Torque converter goes onto transmission FIRST, then assembly bolts to engine. Careful not to damage the TC o rings or you will have a nasty leak and poor performance.
