So I understand removing the ecu is a cheap form of anti-theft, but does it have any negative effects on the ecu or the engine over time? Does removing the ecu and plugging it back in reset the ecu? Does it reset any maintenance memory?

 

I wouldn't think so, I have never heard any problems from this happening.
