capacitor and alarm BB?
im thinking of getting a bass cap for my system but i remember reading that having one can effect your alarms back up battery is this true? how do i solve this?
I wonder, hmmmm?
I have not run into a system with both a cap and a back-up batt. that I can think of, a few with back-up batt./siren and a cap an they are not a problem.
If batt. lead is disconnected the back-up batt. will trigger the alarm, but if a cap was still be connected to the batt. cable, [or the neg. batt. cable was removed, the back-up batt. would "see" the cap, the cap will still have a charge.
So the question is, does the back-up batt. see the cap as a charged batt. [as the cap will take some time to discharge if there is no load], will the back-up batt. keep the cap charged as they will still be connected through cars 12V+ constant circuit and chassis ground. hmmmm???
Definitely something I will have to check out. 94

Yes, there will be some issues as brought up. Fcm pertty much sumed it up. The alarm is not going to go off till the cap bleeds of some voltage. And this is till around 5 volts. If you have a hood pin. This should trigger the alarm before the theif gets to the battery. And once the alarm is triggered it will still go off with the battery unpluged. It just will not report on the alarm zone right alway that the back up battery was triggred till the cap bleeds off voltage.
Interesting, I'll try removing my battery and see if the DEI back-up siren detects loss of voltage, or if the cap is sufficient to keep the back-up siren quiet....hmm

Well if you hooked you alarm up correctly the alarm should be pulling its power from the back up system at all times and the only thing going to the battery should be to charge it. The DC current draw required to charge the battery and run the alarm is more then enough to instantly drain the cap. Also if you have the kind of cap that turn "on" when the stereo is on it will be "off" when the stereo is not on.
You may be correct about about the current draw, but I wonder, the back-up batt. would be fully charged as would the cap, and current draw for an armed alarm is not that much.
This is something I would definitely want to try out in a car that has both a back-up batt. and a cap on the audio system, just to see how "instant" that draw down is. 94
