Yup. I used spray for the back seats...they came out nice and pretty (Ebony Black) but, they still smell like spray. I used brush on dye for the carpet and front seats and let them dry for about 6 hours (being safe) they came out great too without the arisol smell.

So, if you want a black interior use the brush on dye not the spray......even if it takes about twice as long.

The smell goes away after a few weeks. I sprayed my hatch cover with vinyl dye and it smelled bad for a few weeks.

Great, that's what I was hoping to hear.....right now the back seats are out. I will be putting them back in after the smell is gone.

Well the spray can was 4.99 and it did the back seat butt cushion and half of the back rest.

I don't remember how much the brush on was.......I will post that tomorrow as well.

ANd I think it looks great.....I am getting a camera today if I can find one under a hundred and fifty.

All in all, using the spray it took me about 1 hour to do the back seats.....inculding prep time and removal of the seats.

Again, I don't suggest the spray unless you like the smell of arisol for weeks on end.

Of course.....the brush on stuff has a weird smell too.

I orignally found out about this spray dye from a computer forum. People use them to dye their cd-roms etc. I tried it on some of my computer stuff too, and I can tell you this.

This is NOT paint. The only way it will flake off of plastic is if it isnt totally dry. It actually soaks into the plastic.

If you are still unsure, take one of your door pulls or handles and spray that. Then wait to see what happens in a few weeks to that, since you tough it everyday.

just goto the automotive paint section at pepboys or even walmart, kragen etc.

Look for Interior Dye, Vinyl Dye etc in spray cans. there are a few people that make it, and comes in all kinds of colors.

does Pep Boys also carry the roll-on? What are these products called? Other than the smell is the aerosol as effective as the roll on? Thanks

Off the top of my head....

Fabric Dye
Interior Dye
Plastikote Vinyl Dye
Upholstery Dye
etc etc
You cant miss it. Most of them have pictures of beat up seats on them

I used it on some floor matts that I have, but I think they were Scotch Gaurded, so the stuff just "dusted" off and wasnt able to soak in. It should work fine on anthing that hasn't been stain treated, as long as it can soak into the fabric.

i did my dash and am doing my fabric tomorrow, use laquir thinner to dry out the dash like just wipe the dash done with the stuff, then tape everything off and paint it with vinyl paint, it looks like a brand new dash, i am not kidding it looks better than a brand new car cause its all shinny and everything, they have mass colors too but i decided to keep it simple and go with black. good luck guys
