Default Tach jumps / bad gas mileage

Before everyone jumps on me for searching, I just want to verify if this is the issue. I don't feel like looking at my car for a week when I send my dizzy back to distributor king for an exchange just to find out its not the ignitor.

Overview: H22 --> EK, I/H/E

Last week I installed a new intake / stock throttle body / header. TPS is not adjusted yet, but I'm not throwing any codes.

I installed the header, drove to the muffler shop open header and dropped the car off to get the header welded up. I went and picked the car up, and it wouldnt start. Turned out to be bad plugs. (6,000 miles old!) I was still getting 240miles to a tank though.

I drove my car for a day, was absolutely fine. Hit vtec, pulled hard.. no issues. During my autox this weekend, I noticed my tach going crazy above vtec.

So driving home, above 5000 rpms, my tach jumps up 1000rpms, then down and up and down all the way to 7800rpms. I have no issues before 5000rpms, the car does not bog, I have no codes.

I checked all the grounds. They're good.

I filled my car to about 1/2 a tank, and in the matter of a day its back down to 1/8th tank with a total of 25miles driven...

So would a bad ignitor cause bad gas mileage & the tach to jump ONLY after vtec engages?

Thanks.

Jumping tach is one of the tale tell signs of a bad coil.

Not even two weeks ago I was experiencing the exact same problems. No issues at low rpm. At high rpm the tach would jump all over the place.

Put a new coil in and no more problems.

Thank you. Thats what I needed to know. Every issue I found, it was through the whole entire RPM range.. not just high rpms. If anyone else has any insight, itd be appreciated. I'd like to feel 100% confident that when i get it back, my car will be 100% again. lol
