weird problem
first off i did do a search on here and came up with nothing, so if this has been asnwered before sorry i tried to find it... ok here i go
it's a 91 crx si.
I have been having a weird no start problem.. it starts for a few seconds after it has been sitting for a while, at least 10 minutes or so.. then after that it wont start again until i let it sit, it does crank and i have spark and i know i have fuel. i can hear the pump prime and i pulled off the ruturn line from the regulator and it has good fuel flow. i have replaced the fuel filter. i am wondering if it could be some problem with the pump cutting in and out, but it seems to smell rich so i dont think thats it, or a possible clogging in the return line somewhere causing too much fuel pressure, i dont have a fuel pressure gauge.. i may need to get one.. i know it's not the main relay cause the pump is working it's not in the distibutor, i have good spark. just seems to flood and then when it sits for a while it will start for a short time and run like crap. i have also checked all vacuum lines and even pulled off the main vacuum line to the brake booster and plugged it incase i had a big leak internally in the booster.
I had this problem when my D16A6 was in the car now i have put in a D15b and still same problem.. i have put on the OBd1 inj and eliminated the injector resistor, am using a p06 computer (simular to p28) have the ecu and distributor harness, i dont think it has anything to do with the new motor cause it's doing the exact same thing as before.
If anyone has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate the help.

My Y49 rex in high school did this! It turned out to be a bad injector, it was just dumping fuel into the chamber instead of spraying it.... pull injectors out one by one, and have someone turn the key to 'on' and see what sprays out....mine had a stream of fuel as big as my finger, the other three were just mists.... good luck!
yeah i thought about the possibility of a stuck open injector or even the regulator being stuck open. I had the same problem with the obd0 d16a6 injectors and now i have the obd1 d15 b injectors in and its doing the same thing. I guess it's possible to have the same problem with 2 different sets of injectors, that would be my luck!! lol
I think i will try pulling and making sure it isnt possible also i will get a fuel gauge and check out my pressure.
thank you guys for the replies

a little update. Still having same problem. i havent had a chance to get a fuel pressure gauge yet i worked all weekend, but i did check a few other things this morning.
1. i have 12 volts at all injectors, checked with multi meter
2. Have injector pulse.. checked with test light that i can power and check for grounds, so i put it in the ground side of injector connector and turned over engine and it flashed.
3. ohmed all injectors, all right around 12ohms.. running OBD1 injectors.
4. Have 12 volts to the fuel pump with key in the on position and main relay does click and i can hear the pump turn on and back off..
I havent been able to pull off any injectors yet to see if i have spray or a stuck open or closed injector though.
Anyone have any other ideas i may be missing I am open for suggestions as i am stumped.

another update, this is getting weirder. So i only ha d a short time to work on it today and when i took out the number 1 spark plug and turned it over it started. it was blowing fuel out of the spark plug hole but it started right up and i only let it for for a few seconds, but thats longer than it has been running. So then i tried putting the plug back in and leaving off the plug wire, no start, then i put plug wire on and removed the injector connector for number 1, no start. then i removed the injector connector and number 1 spark plug wire, still not start, so i removed the spark plug again and it starts right up??? wtf??? i didnt have time to try this with other cylinders, because i started looking at timing issues, i lined up TDC cam and crank looked good so i pulled off the distributor cap and rotor was pointing right to number 1 and all the wires were in the correct order on cap. Also when i pulled the plug i had it attatched to the wire and i had spark, thats when it started up the first time. So now i am really confused, never had this kind of a problem with any car.
Am i possibly just overlooking something simple?? anyone got any ideas at all??

Have you checked the vacuum line going from the back of the intake manifold to the fuel map sensor on the firewall? That'll cause you to run really rich, idle like crap and blow black smoke.
ok final update. Figured this crazy prblem out. So just to summarize. I had all the ingredients i needed to start. Fuel,Spark, Timing, and Compression. Still no start. Until i went to check my spark for the 10th time and instead of just putting a screwdriver in the boot i pulled out the plug istself to see what my spark looked like. Well when i did that with the plug out of the hole it started up. Did that on all cylinders, 1 at a time. But not if i left the plug in and just disconnected the plug wire and/ or injector connector. So that made me check timing again etc etc. Well nothing was looking wrong still so i decided to take some time away from the car before i took a large hammer to it.
Until today when it hit me, it was a long shot i thought maybe just maybe the damn exhaust is plugged, i didnt want to get my hopes up,i was thinking what are the odds it so plugged it wont start. Well sure as can be i unhooked my exhaust from the downpipe to the cat and it fired right up. So it's either the muffler or the cat, i replaced the cat last year but it has taken a few bumps so it could be broken up inside. Never had an exhaust do this to me before, so i just wanted to let everyone know what the problem was. oh well live and learn i guess.
