DSS 2.9 Axles Question ?
what's your question? Are you wanting to know if they can really handle that power? People make that kind of power using stock axles.. Mind you they may not be launching on 26's but it works on the street..LOL
well i went to the track and first time on slicks (24.5x9x13) and launched at like 3000 rpm and snapped a axle. push it and changed it at the track but i don't want to go thru that again so i want to upgrade. i want to launch hard.
yeah because i was scared to break a axle. just wanted to know if anybody out drag racing is using dss 2.9, but their car have more horsepower than what the axles are rated for?
i have the dss axles 2.0 before they made the 2.9 and i am 510 to the wheels using 25 inch slicks launching at 7k, the 2.9 are even stronger, the reason you broke is you dead hooked, the trick its to preload like crazy and spin some not dead hook.
i have 520 whp right know so i was thinking to get the 3.9 but someone told me to run the 2.9's. im a newbie right now and need to learn how to preload. i just want to launch hard really without worring abot snapping axles.

My k-series street driven Integra was making around 500hp, many 8k rpm launches on slicks with the DSS 2.9's.. For the money, those are great axles.. In my drag car, I'll only run DSS 5.9's..
If you are worried about breaking axles launch higher, you want to spin not hook off the line.... I launched at 7500rpm no 2 step on stock axles with 8psi in the tires for fear of breakage.
why not use INSANE SHAFTS can support the horse power easily with the tire pressure down to five pounds These are an even swap axle, which means no spindle change Much lighter than any other axle on the market Will be very happy with your launches and your 60fts. and about half the cost of other manufacturers

INSANE SHAFTS are original and copies nobody They are proven just new on the market but feel free to use whatever axle you feel will work for you
I think the 2.9's are worth their weight in poop.
I snapped the driver side nub clean off in mid burnout, no it did not start to wheelhop. Matter of fact, it looks identical to the picture in their foresale thread showing what happens to a stock axle. NOPE, that's what happens to a DSS axle.......and apparently the best 1 they can provide.
I didn't dead hook, dump clutch, or wheel hop. Its only 413whp in a d16 with a 26" DOT.
Rated at 475+whp.....please, they can't handle 400hp out a single slam on street legal tire.

sorry to bump a 3 year old thread but it was one of the first with a google search. i have 2.9 DSS axles. car was tuned and made 280whp at 18psi(d16z6). i turned the boost down to 14 so im guessing 230ish now. first night at the track since tune and first time with a fwd turbo car. first run wasnt great because well, it was my first time. 2nd time. went from 1st to 2nd and SNAP. driver side axle, right near the transmission. 205/50/15 street tires. stock open diff.
is this normal for this to happen? it didnt wheel hop much my first run. wheel hopped more the 2nd time.

I think most people break their 2.9s thinking they have godlike axles and just dump the clutch. Anyone who drives that way is bound to break something...
