Icon3 Anyone had this problem?

check this out....

I recently bought New lower balljoints for my Hatch. They are honda balljoints for 88-91 civic (bought for 90' civic) and they are diffrent from the ones i took out.

on the new ones there is no groove for the circlip.

did honda revise them?

look at the pics....... old left, new right

I was trippin for a sec and jus thought maybe the boot is on too far lol, but naw

At first was thinking was wrong part sent, but after just google serching the part# it comes right up at a couple websites as a "honda civic" balljoint and as a 88-91 civic balljoint also. even at Hondaautomotiveparts.com when u bring up the front knuckle drawing, it shows the ball joint and the clip for it but this was the ball joint i got.

I kno for a fact that just pressing them in, and no clip on the bottom they well jus pop back out. even more with a lowered civic/integra.

so any ideas? or anyone have this problem?

most replacement ball joints dont come with clips required. for them to back out thats kind of hard to do. theyre pressed in for a reason. take it to your local machine shop to press them in and see what they say. my new ball joints didnt come with clips. every brand of car changes their design on OEM replacement parts. at work weve done ball joints on a lot of the dodge vans and they never had clips on the lower ball joints. as long as theyre pressed in correctly and all your nuts are tighten then you shouldn't worry.

i understand most dont come with the clips. this is why i was asking if there was a revision on the balljoint for the civic? and like you said there pressed in for a reason......but i took them out with a 17mm deep socket and a gentle swing from the BFH (after taking the clip off ofcourse) jus one tap and "poped" right out.

so putting these in with out the clip on the bottom....does that sound safe?

maybe ill go to the local dealership tommorow and see if they can give me some info.

but everyone, feel free to give suggestions, or advice on how you installed your LBJ's if you bought these same Honda ones.or maybe how lomg have u had them installed with out the clips.....

limmie kno

do see how the part number in the middle is SK7? Honda will use it sometimes when they change something. Ask your parts guy they will know.

jus so evryone knows

i went to the honda dealer the other day on this subject

talked to a parts manager and a honda tech....honda did change the design on the lower balljoint. they made it a little thicker so there is no need for the bottom c clip anymore. they were a "little" harder to press in then ones ive done in past before this revision.

this is for honda balljoint only....aftermarket ones still come with the nocth for the c clip, nd most come with the c clip itself.

but i guess we well see how it works out.

oh and here's a quick pic of the goodies

this project coming together slowly but surely. oh and new hubs are also on the way...from honda of course.
