I have a 2000 si with an H22A. The car was running perfect before we pulled the head and had it sent off for new valve seals. It doesnt loose vtec until the car is hot. If you let the car warm up at an idle you will get vtec for about 5 minutes of normal driving. We have manually engaged the solenoid when its hot. We are getting signal to the solenoid. I dont have any check engine lights. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

This happened to a buddy of mine. Your oil pump might be going bad. Do you have a cracked crank pulley?

The oil pumps gear might be out of spec so the oil pressure isn't enough to properly engage vtec... A new oil pump might be your solution...

 

Ive thought about that too. My oil pan has a dent in it as well but I didnt have any problems before we pulled the head. I think we are going to try a new oil pump and maybe either bang out the dent or try a new pan as well. I dont believe the crank pulley is cracked but ill be sure to take a look.

 

a cracked crank pulley can make your oil pump go bad? how? Because I have 2 chips in my crank pulley. Its a shaven h22a crank pulley for my h2b but while trying to put the motor in the car, it kinda hit the walls a bit and cracked off.. should I replace it?

 

I was wondering if anyone had any "cheaper" ideas. lol The whole oil pump thing is a pain in the *** and expensive.

We actually found metal shavings in the screen in the vtec solenoid gasket when we pulled the solenoid off. The machine shop didn't clean the head out properly when they rebuilt it. We have to pull the head, see if there is any internal damage and if anything needs replaced the machine shop is going to pick up the tab. We are also going to pull the oil pan and inspect the bottom end and flush it out with some fresh oil as well to ensure there are no metal shavings in the bottom end. Hopefully there is no internal damage and this will take care of the issue.
