Default EK4/EK9 suspension spring general knowledge query

I just got a '97 Japan import EK4 SiR,
it has those awful Ebay style adjustable springs,
i need different springs immediately,
and cheap/second hand, cos i'm broke!

* I fitted a stock front spring i had from a '95 EG3 and the wheel arch almost rested on the wheel when dropped from the jack, I presume this is the weight of the bigger engine or just different spring lengths/rates from '97 on?

* Will the stock springs from a '90 EF 1.6 Dohc Vtec civic do the job?

* Will the stock springs from a '96+ EK (or any model) Civic with a smaller engine, say 1.4L, do the job?

* Will the stock springs from an '96+ Ej coupe, say 1.6 lsi or something, fit my car?

Im just trying to maximise whats available to me in my area and find some springs lying around in someones garage.
Its got 17 inch wheels so im expecting it to look/handle a little bit jeep-like but its just to get me on the road while i save for proper springs or full coilovers. The bang when the current set-up hits a bump is unbearable, theres marks on the paint between the spring coils from compressing fully.

If anything I would go for the type-r springs as they are the stiffest and can probably get you by for a while. I am thinking the springs on the 1.6 and 1.4 might be the same, both being a higher stance than the type-r ones. They will also be softer than the R stuff.

I don't know about the ef ones so hopefully someone chimes in and helps out a little more.

i've seen lowering springs advertised that will fit the 1.4 AND 1.6 EK incl vtec, so im thinking these models might share the same shocks.
i might get lucky and find used SiR or Type-R springs cheap, but if not there's a ton of 1.4's lying around over here. Be great if they'd fit and take the weight of a B16a.

All i want to know is,

Is the uncompressed 'distance between the top and bottom spring mount seats' the same on all Honda Civic shocks from '92-'00 (JDM '88-'00), or did it get larger in '96?
(ie. can you use eg springs on an ek or are the eg ones designed to be compressed into a smaller gap?)

and,

Is the spring rate the only difference between models with different sized engines (ie. would springs from a 1.4 litre car hold the weight of a b16)
like, is there that much extra weight in a b16 lump versus a 1.4/1.5 sohc?
