I have a JDM front end with the OEM HID unit. I knew this day was going to come but it seems one of the bulbs burned out. It has not completely burned out, but it has went from white to a purple color. I have a couple of questions:
1. How do I buy a replacement and how do I identify the part number.
2. Anyone have a procedure for replacement of the bulbs.
I feel like a complete noob when it comes to this so please try to keep the negatives to a minimum.

yea theyre D2S bulbs..theyre quite pricey from a dealer. i bought my Phillips Ds2 from EBay i won them for 56$ shipped! and they only had a few hours of use on them..been using them for a few months now and no problems..at my Job i was looking at 280$ for both the bulbs WITH my employee discount.
The bulbs you need are D2S. The Philips 85122+ is a good replacement and is OEM on many models.
The general procedure to replace the bulb is as follows (going off of memory, there may be small steps that I forgot):
Remove headlight assembly from vehicle.
Remove ballast (black box).
Remove bulb.
Install bulb. Do not touch the glass.
Reinstall ballast.
Reinstall headlight.

Sorry to bring this thread back, but I am really having trouble removing the headlight with the ballast still in place. I have removed the 3 bolts connecting the headlight to the body and I have removed the center tray and it won't jmmy out for some reason. Am I doing this wrong? Please help. I have to go scoping for hoez tonight(jk).
Are you sure you need to remove the headlight and ballast to install a bulb? Most of the time you just open up the rear of the headlight, pop off the clips holding the bulb in place, then replace the bulb.
yeah you need to remove the headlight to get the bulb out, because the ballast sits behind the bulb.

I am getting really pissed off trying to change a freaking lightbulb. There is a bracket under the headlight that I have judged as impossible to remove without either destroying the bracket or the front bumper support.
I am seriously considering going to a bodyshop to get a lightbulb replaced.

I tried to save some money by doing it myself. I couldn't figure it out and neither could anyone else, so I am going to take it to a professional.
No. This bracket is attached to the headlight assembly and it was causing interference. I never got the headlight out to remove the ballast. I put everything back together without the bulb being replaced. I am going to call shops tomorrow/Tuesday.

Grill
Fender
Top of rad support x2
Engine bay (same as the USDM bolt location)
One on the bottom of the headlight that is sometimes not connected
ive taken the bulbs out several times... i never used all tabs. i have to take off my Bumper reinforcement everytime though so the bottom of the HID's can clear it. then it slides right off. i usually only have 3 bolts..one bolt to the fender and the 2 ontop of the rad support and the screw that holds it onto the grill. i eventually took off the bottom part of the HID cover so that now it clears it without taking off the bumper support!
