Poor Man's Comptech Icebox I made today
Came out pretty clean.

I've started my project, making a custom intake, using a 3" short ram intake, painted black to look clean, and my stock EG airbox. I didn't like the idea of heat soak into the cone filter so I'm going this route instead. I'm having to cut a section off of the intake pipe so it can mate up to the stock airbox. I'll be using two black 3" silicone couplings to attach the intake pipe and airbox together, and the intake pipe to the throttle body.
When comparing the3" aluminum intake tube and the stock EG6 intake tube (for B16A), the inside diameter of the two were very similar. The intake tube might have been a couple of millimeters bigger, but the difference is negligible. The EG6 intake tube tapers at the end to accommodate the throttle body. The 3" intake tube will accommodate the throttle body with another 3" silicone coupling. The EG6 intake tube also has a resonator, and this might be restrictive in some way, then again, it may not be. I don't know.
There was a piece inside the airbox that looked resrictive. It's a small tube that directs air inside the airbox, yet it goes clear into the middle of the airbox, therefore covering a big section of the air filter. In my eyes this only lets air come through about half of the air filter. So I took it out, because it was clipped in, I didn't have to break or cut anything to get it out. Now the entire area of the airbox can be utilized for airflow.
The only downside is that I have a simple OEM replacement air filter, and nothing performance minded like a K&N. But at least I'm not using the Spectre cone filter I was before. Although many people use these, I've heard they don't filter all that great. I don't know how true this rumor is, but based on how cheap the filter is in cost I wouldn't be surprised.
Another reason I'm doing this, besides heat soak, is my Mugen header is coming in this week, and I don't want a Mugen 4-1 header and a cheap intake to be together, I need to spice up my bay a little.

May want to try an Integra air box with the better filter design. What do you have at the inlet of the air box? The OE inlet may be a large restriction as well.
just wanted to say you're half way there man. here's a better wright up. hope this will help you in making that comptech replica

Yeah I've seen there, where he makes a Mugen replica with a 4" inlet. Mine doesn't have an inlet like that yet, which doesn't really make it an icebox. I know the Civic airbox is smaller than the Integra, but keep in mind this whole prject cost me about $5 because I already had the materials in my garage.
