Default Car Audio Wiring

I never replaced any of the old Car audio stuff after I bought my car. Its got a couple of things I want to keep. What I am wondering is the best way to go about taking out all the stuff. It has an amp hooked up I am already removing the CD player. I dont know if I should pull everything out and check the connections because I dont know if everything is even hooked up right. I'm thinking about just pulling everything out and then putting it back in with the stuff I want. Or I could just trust that the speakers are hooked up right. What would you guys do.
