Default Auto X on HX rims

Well I was wonder if any of you guys are running hx rims? And are they powder coated? The reason I ask os because I was going to run them on my crx but wanted to get them powder coated first but my friend says it will weaken then to much and people have problems with cracking when auto x-ing. Anyone got some input on if powder coating will weaken them?

If you do any sort of racing you should never powder coat or paint your rims. If your rims crack you will not be able to see it. And of course running on a cracked rim is bad.

So would you say powder coating will weaken it? The car will see track time but about 90% of the time it will be a daily driver.

They are OK to use, most wheels are powder coated or painted to begin with, however like any wheel check them for cracks or damage regularly. The heat use in powder coating should be no higher than they would reach during high performance use on the track.

they do pretty good. but like everyone else says, don't powder coat them. leave them stock or just take off the factory powder coat.

oh, and another thing, with my hx rim and hoosier tire combo, i have to say they weigh almost as much as my steelies with falken azenis. but this is only just with holding them in my hands. it feels like the hx rims with tires are about 1-3lbs lighter then the steelies. my $.02

Only reason I was thinking about powder coating them is because the previous owner rattle canned them white and look like crap .

U have to be careful about powder coating. Generally, you heat the rims up in an oven to do so. Depending on the type of powder coating, the temperatures vary.

There is some good info in there . I'll speak with the powder coating place and see what they say.

I think if you're going to be on street tires (not r-comps), and you use a place that knows about powder coating you should be ok in such a light car as the CRX.

But consider you could just strip and paint and clear them first to see if it works out, then if it fails you're not out too much.

I wonder if anodizing might be an option that somebody local offers? I know there are some kits for doing it and you can use my charger.

^^ im running r comps, hoosier a6 to be exact. so far i've only had a chance to do three events on these, and next sunday's philie event might be a wash, so i might not have a chance to try out the setup again till Arkansas.

but so far they are holding up. the only gripe is that with the weird offset that the hx's have, the 205's rub on the inside. not much, but you can see were it's rubbing. damn stock class rules.
