1993 Accoord EX cleaned ports now runs like crap!
HELP!!!
Ok my car was running fine but the check engine light keep coming on and I was getting code 12 no egr lift.... changed the egr still got the code... read up on this code online and found out I had to clean out the ports. So I got the 6 new port plugs and cleaned the ports out sprayed carb cleaner in them and put motor back together. When I started it ran like crap for a few min then cleaned up a little bit. So I tried to drive it around the block to blow it out. When I got half way down the street I started to hear a knocking noise????
So I turned around and went back to the house... Motor was still knocking and running ruff: thud: so I cut it off and called it a day. The next day I went out a started the car still knocking let run for a few and the knock went away....
but the car had a very ruff idle and would try to cut off if I put it into gear. I drove it with two feet to keep it running for about 60 miles. Car ran great above 5mph and has a lot more power now.....but is running ruff when I come to a stop and would die. I pulled the spark plug wires off one by one and the only one the did not make the idle worse was # 2 I did a compression test and # 2 was low. I performed a valve adjustment and still no luck.... Has anyone seen or heard anything like this before. Car ran great before I cleaned out the egr ports. What should my next steps be? What could the problem be?
Any help would be GREAT!
Thanks,

Thanks,
I'm surprised the first thing you did was clean out the ports. The EGR valve is operating correctly? Have you gotten the engine running and sprayed car starter fluid near the intake hoses to see if you have a vacuum leak? Is there still a check engine light? Did you replace those rubber O-rings that go between the spark plug holes in the valve cover and the head?
Just a thought - Are you sure you actually cleaned your EGR ports? The reason I ask is that, if I understand you correctly, you said that you clean your ports by using calibrator cleaner.
The last one I did was so blocked that you had to use a drill bit to open the ports at the bottom. Also, if all 4 ports are completely clogged your car would, more or less, run just fine. If in cleaning your ports you only managed to free up just one of them, then that particular cylinder would get the entire EGR exhaust flow and it might not fire at all.
For what its worth!

I changed the egr valve first then cleaned out the ports, yes I checked for vacuum leak and there are none... I relpaced valve cover with all new parts. I had to knock/drill out the port plugs and I used a hanger and carb cleaner to clean out all the carbon... Then I drove the car and it started to knock very loud parked and the next day a let it run for a few with the knock still there after a while the knock whent away... now the car is running ruff at idiel but runs smooth once you start going. # 2 cyl has low comprestion now also.
