CRX Wings West Door Caps Don't Fit
Ok, so I picked up a wings west kit for super super dirt cheap and couldn't pass it up. But I have a problem thats halting the install. The door caps are WAY WAY off. They line up where the existing door molding used to be (where the screws should go), and the door caps are about 1/2" too short on both sides, meaning there will be a gap where you will still be able to see the door...I'll get some pics in a min and put 'em up.
Anyone know any reason for this? I'm pretty sure it can't be fixed if something is wrong with them since they are polyurethane...
Thanks in advance.
And please don't post if it's not gonna help.
Authenticity... Model No. 890329 (Driver's side)

This is the gap with the rear part of the cap flush with the end of the door...

Here is my stock door molding compared to the WW door cap... (Passenger side)

If they are real WW urethane door caps, they will have a slant cut on the edge where the door opens. You align the edge of door where it opens flush, then the slant peice will show a little of the door. They made it that way so you can open the door without it nipping the door cap and ruining your paint.

its not gapped for the door its actually the wrong door cap it was intended for the hatch back not the crx i had the similar problemwhen wings west was around and not a part of vis i asked a friend that i had that worked there and she told me that it was a big complaint that they had........ she also told me if you have problems installing the bumpers to set them out in the sun and let them sit for a while and try it again it will make them stretch a bit
The only other thing I can think of is I have heard speculation, can't confirm, that the 89HF has a slightly longer door than 88-91 NON-HF's. And I do indeed have an 89 HF (double checked VIN online). That is the only thing I can think of, which leaves me in a crappy position because if that's the case, I can't use the door caps at all since I have heard that no other doors will fit on my CRX.
Anyone have some input?
i think the 89 HF has the same door as the 88 crx's. So yours would be different then the 89 non-HF and the 90-91 crx.
your car has the pillar mount seat belts and not on the door right??

the kit is fine. you should be installing the side skirts before the door caps. trust me it will line up. just like someone else said about the door cap being beveled as to not scrape. you don't realize how much the side skirt kind of over hangs the door and covers that gap on the front fender side.
there is supposed to be that much of a gap. if you dont want to see the gap or a seam, do what others have done and use all of the other ww parts but get ebay fiberglass door caps, and blend them in

Hmmm not a bad idea...
I think besides real Mugen Pro kit and Mugen SPL and SPL9, the WW kit is the only other kit that looks decent on EF/ED's...
Again, clean hatch. Thanks for the pics guys, I'm gonna slap it on and be happy now that I have two people that have the same kit with the same gap. Thanks again.
Hey crex23, post up a pic of your car if you dont mind. I have some Azure Blue left from my '82 starlet and was thinking of using it to paint my rex, but maybe darken up the blue since Azure is kinda light. Wanna get an idea of what it will look like.
