Default Painting Chrome, Need Advice

so my wheels are gunmetal with chrome lips, im sick of that look and the only reason i have them is beacuase i got a great deal on them. i am thinking about changing it up a bit. i bought some duplicolor MetalCast, but as usual the instructions are very vague. has anybody used this stuff before? ive found many diffrent answers some saying scuff the chrome others saying dont. then adhesion promoter basecoats etc etc. i want to do them right the first time. any help would be great

Are you sure the lip is actually chrome? If so, you probably want to media blast the wheel to remove the coating first, or it might flake off under the paint later.

Most painted wheels with a shiny lip are simply polished, not chrome. In which case, you remove the factory clear, adhesion promoter, paint (w/ the metal cast stuff, other paint should probably have primer under it).

well it depends if there is a clear over the lip, but personally, i would just cover the whole rim with paint stripper, clean it off, sand down all the imperfections, scuff the whole rim, then paint
