What can I use for an exhaust insulator...read on
Ever since I installed my high flow cat and skunk2 exhaust ive noticed that my console area, ebrake basicly that whole piece has been alot hotter. I haven/t removed any heatshields. Is there any insulating spray I can use above the exhaust to bring temperatures down. Any suggestions are welcome.
A couple coats of VHT probably would help as it forms a heat barrier.
I coated the underside of the 'hump' on mine with a couple coats of a thick rubbery rustproofing which killed a lot of the noise. It probably act as a heat barrier too. Some of this stuff is supposed to be "paintable".. You might want to try a coating of the thick rustproofing with a couple coats of VHT after the rustproofing has had a chance to dry (two weeks maybe?). I don't know if the VHT will stick to the rustproofing though. You might want to experiment first.
There is always a layer of aluminum foil that could be put in place. Also. McMaster-Carr has a series of adhesive barrier products that might work as does the ubiquitous JC Whitney (serious).
