Ride height with 17's
Hey guys I was able to pick up a set of used Koni Challenge Hoosiers for ubber cheap. The OD is right at 24.5 right in line with the Toyo/Nitto tires of similar sizes (225/45/17). I'm kind of wondering is there a good starting off point for ride height. I know I'll have to raise the car due to the taller tire. Should I just split the differance between the new set up and the old 225/45/15's? Its about 3/4's of an inch. Just throwing it out there. Thanx for looking.

Hmm. 24.97" (225/45/17) diameter - 22.97" (225/45/15) diameter... 2" diameter change, 1" radius change.
5" IT min ride height, if memory serves that chassis works fairly well at about 5.25"...
add 1" to that...
Try 6.25-6.5" ground:rocker panel for a starting ride height for the big tires.

Then 225/45-17 is hella big. And I can't see what kind of advantages it would have over 225/45-15. No matter how cheap the tire is, if it's forcing you to make changes to your car, and if it's making your car's ride height higher, it's probably not worth it.

IMO the "ubber cheapness" of the KC tires isn't worth it unless you are just looking for track time...
they are slow, really slow.
Frame of reference..
MX5 cup 3 years ago was as fast as ST class, faster at some tracks.
When the MX5 came to ST it couldn't get within 3 seconds of the front runners.
They gave it a built motor (the MX5) and now it is able to run up front.
Yes they are SLOW

Sorry guys I didnt mention what car it is. Its a 2001 GSR which is currenty prepped and was raced by its previous owner in H2 and ITS. Good info in the tire its self. I did purchase the tire for its price. And to try for fitment to switch to the 225-45-17 or 235-40-17 later. I know its a big tire but I know alot of guys out west, and John Whitaker and Matt Lang have run / are running / have run these sizes in H2 and H1. And Edo ran a tire even larger in the 245-50-16 and made it work. So I'll go ahead and get the car up a little higher and all should be good. If not I have a set of 225-45-15's in the garage as well but I like the idea of more mecahnical grip.

Lateral mechanical grip should be the same between those 2 tires. You might lose a bit of longitudional grip, because of the smaller diameter of the 225/45-15 (easier for them to spin coming off the line and corners), but that depends on what they do to your car elsewhere on the course as to wether or not they are a net gain or loss.
