alternator question
so i've been having an alternator problem for a while and i thought i fixed it. i got a new belt and i adjusted it and it's been fine. lately its been squeeking again and i checked for oil and dirt on the belt. nothing. the belt is tight, not too tight. sometimes my battery charge light would pop on and off. i went to my local parts store and tested my alternator and they said i might need a new one.
my question is, would a bad alternator be the reason i have a squeeky belt?
my question is, would a bad alternator be the reason i have a squeeky belt?
nah because you would hear it and you would feel it in the car while driving. the squeeky noise is because its not tight enough. had this prob all the time with mine till i just took a crobar and tightened it till i thought was enough, then screwed it tight
im pretty sure its my belt. its happened to me before and i just tightened it up and went away. but now its still there. i just wondered if it had to do with a bad alternator. im gonna tighten more tomorow and see how it goes. i've probably re-adjusted this belt like 3 times already. so basically its been stretched 3 times or so. normal?
My alt had a squeak every now and then, changed the belt twice with two different brands and still squeaked. It was the bearing inside, good alt, just took off and had shop install new one for $15, never had a problem
hmmm ill bring it to the shop then and have them check it out. hopefully my alternator is still good and its just the bearing. how long did it take to change the bearing? thanks

It didn't take long maybe 20 minutes, I watched him while were bsing. It didn't look too hard, I'm sure it can be diy if you have some insight, just get the bearing. By the way it was a commercial electrical shop, they rebuild and fix most alt
ooh well any other shop should be able to do the job right? i see youre from norcal. what was the shop called?
I took it to commercial electric and auto in yc. They've been here forever and are known for doing great work. Any shop that works on alt will do, not a lot do. Make sure it's your alt, most of the time its the belt, I've only known of a handful of bearings go out especially stock hondas. I had an aftermarket high output alt that the bearing went out, couldn't afford the ohio alt so I got a knock off. You get what you pay for
