cam timing gear question, d16z6

cam timing gear question, d16z6
I just got a head for my mini-me swap, going from d15z1 to a d16z6 head. It doesnt have a timing gear though. Can i use the timing gear off the old head? Also, i'm going to get the head checked at a shop, any suggestions to have them look for? or just hand it to them and see. Thanks.
