DIY: Running New Wire 96-00 Civic
Alright guys and gals, I decided to take some video of how I did re-wiring the front speakers in my 96 EX. I'm no DIY expert but this should help.
Keep in mind that the front fender needs to come off.
.
If you have a small phillips head, great, if not you are going to have to jack it up and take off the front tire.
There is a small tab on the door side that releases the plug from the door and on the chassis side just use a flat head and some patience.
BE ABSOLUTELY CAREFUL WHEN DRILLING OUT THE PLASTIC!!!
-I know I tagged some wires because I looked at the bit but luckily my windows and locks still work...and I would recommend testing after each drilling.
Though the hole on the door side I just fed it through, there is a plastic elbow on the inside of the door, and reached up and grabbed it.
For the interior, keep in mind I have only done the passenger side, I dropped the glove box down and there you should see some yellow foam. I just a flat head to move it to the side from the exterior of the car and fed the wire through.
Lastly, make sure you have enough wire and don't be afraid to over compensate. I did for about 2 feet but that is just me and I hate doing things twice.

Note I had a cold at the time of doing this so I sound a little off. enjoy!
06-12-2009 UPDATES!!!
So I finally got off my rear and finished the drivers side, I was extremely more careful with this side and it took me like 5 hours but I wasn't working so it kept me busy. So, without further delay I bring you my two videos, one being the drivers side how to and the other being a simple introduction to seat removal and wire running. I don't want to take anyone's creativity away so I didn't really go in depth. Enjoy and all comments are welcome as long as they are constructive and if anyone wants to add information...let me know.

P.s. Everything electronic still works so I am happy...now it's time for an amp. Also, I use videos because I don't want to take a butt load of pictures.

Keep this. I going to make a write up soon on how to install a basic amp soon. and would like to include this in a link.
Much thanks and that is the by product of asking a but load of questions and then just doing it myself. I have noticed with pictures it is tough sometimes to figure out what the person is talking about. My first DIY and first Youtube videos. Woot!

If we could get someone to do the head unit part as well it would be one hell of a write up.
Also, if anyone reads this and has a video for any other models 92-95 civic, 7th and 8th gen civic, Integra all gens. Please add and I would be glad to consolidate. I don't know about the moderators but having a comprehensive guide to install a completely custom system might be applicable to be sticky. But that is just me and I can think big right?

Yeah if I hadn't have waited until the end of my weekend to do it I would have had everything installed by now. I actually called a shop and got an estimate but the problem I had with their 'cheap a$$' way was that it would be tapping into the stock harness, inside the car, and then running wire from the stock wire inside the door to my crossover. I'm running 16 AWG and I believe it goes down to a 18 AWG for the stock one. In my mind it would have been like a bottle neck. The guy said I wouldn't notice but for $200 I would rather put some effort into this community that has helped me before.
I'm doing the driver's side this weekend, my weekend starting tuesday and through thursday, and I'll probably post another vid just because I don't think it be easy access to get to the hole to the interior. Not to mention I am very apprehensive about removing the dash. The easier I can make the job for myself and others, the better.
^UP again, yeah, I'm being an a$$ about it.

Alright, UPDATE!!! I just attempted the drivers side and there are obviously more wires being that I have an EX and all the power goodies...I am envious of DX owners now. I am a wuss when it comes to drilling the door side so I need to figure something out. I already have the plug drilled but I am afraid of risking another nicked wire. FYI there is only one spot do drill into with an opening of 4 plugs near the top of the connector and this is the only spot i see with room.
If anyone has any ideas about a very small saw blade...I'm talking like the size of a paper clip in wide and no more than a few milimerters tall...please let me know.
So far my locks and power doors work and I would like to keep it that way.

my brother has a 96 ex, i tried doing the driver door side about two months ago and found out the harness was full of wires, but when i pulled the boot back i noticed about 4 wires had just let go, not sure what part of that nasty funky grease they pulled from either... so i'm looking for a new harness

I'm being more careful with this side not just because it has more wires but this is my last site and I am going to be very pissed if I bone it here. I'm going to try using a small jigsaw blade by hand or exacto knife...yeah I'm the retentive. I kind of wish honda just left holes in the plug for me, ha ha. not to mention if I screw this up that means I have to fix a plug.
Good input and brainstorming lads and hopefully I can get this done soon because I have one month to go.
Davus is correct and from my experience you almost should because the angle is so sharp, especially when getting to the plug. It only takes a few minutes. Just removed the tire, the pop snaps and screws holding the splash guard to the fender, unbolt the fender in all areas (don't forget the ones under the side skirt and behind the door <which has to be open to get to>). Two people helps with this because you may scratch your car but I just do it myself because I really don't care.
I found a chisel like blade for my exacto and I think I will use that for the drivers side. We'll see.

i just looked at threw my door the other day while i had the pannel off and it looks doable on the the passanger side, but idk on the driver side,
im thinking when i do it ill do one with fender on and on with it off just to see.

i haven't had any luck yet, its part of the floor harness, and everyone wants like a buck 20 or more for it, and i'm not paying that, though what confuses me is how 4-5 of the wires just, came loose from the connector, its not like a applied pressure, i just lightly peeled the boot back and there were wires just hanging out in the boot and i have no clue where the terminals are cause the pin holes are packed with grease.
Bummer, wish I could help you out, it's funny how some of that crap works.
Upidy up for nearing the end of a weekend graveyard shift.

Annnd I'm going to be an *** and bump my own thread again, sorry guys. Finished the drivers side after 5 tedious hours. This side took more finesse and more tools. New video tomorrow. In addition, I am going to do a small how to on taking the drivers seat out and running wire under the carpet. Granted this isn't the first time I have done a system but I wanted to do it 100% this time and I hope this thread helps anyone who is interested in the future.
you dont have to take the fender out dude, makes it easier but if you have been doing it for a long time you can use a hanger first to get it through the boot then tape the wires and pull them through. When i first did it i did the same took my fenders out,,but when i worked for the company they showed me how to work easier and faster because when working for a company and you have 8 appointments in a day you have to finish with remote starts 5 acuators on a van with power windows for a work van ,,ill be fired if i i did that cause that takes too much time.
