Icon3 Quick question..quick answer. Speaker removal.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the front speakers out of my 91dx hatch. I've taken the screws off of the speaker cover and the cover won't pop off. What do I need to do to get the stock blown up speakers off??

If I remember correctly, (it's been a VERY long time since I've done mine) the speaker cover is kind of tabbed in like the tail light covers in the hatch area. Once you take the two screws out, just give the cover a nice pull.

yes there are about a couple of .5 or 1 inch tabs. find em and use a flathead to pop them off so you wont crack em

if im not mistaken yes but you could do 7's if you wanted to lightly trim the part where it sits

snap my bad...I was thinking you had a CRX. I need to read.

I'm not exactly sure what the sizes are for HB's, but I did find this:

you can fit 6.5" in the front. just drill out the back of the speaker basket.

Speakers are 6.5" up front...just did this in my 91' hatch. Be careful on what speakers you pick, as you have limited mounting depth. It might be best to pick up some .5" spacers or even 1" depending on the speaker your putting in. It is possible to get speakers that fit but they are usaually a pretty weak speaker.

i did pick up some memphis power reference speakers that are 6.5's and i did have to get i small .25in washer/spacer for it and they sound amazing.

now another question. my car doesn't have rear speakers and i was wondering how you guys would go about wiring them up since there is no dins or anything from them but i do believe that the stock harness has the wires for them?

Ah, STD model? lol, I have one too. My car didn't have rear speakers back when I got it but there was factory wiring for them. Also, pretty sure you are going to have to get the little speaker pods from a DX or Si to mount them "properly." Good luck!

I see, that's exactly how STD was, but mine didn't have the passenger mirror lol. Your DX should have the rear speaker wiring back there though.

Haha, nah it's a STD. I had the 4 speed manual and everything. Actually, some old lady hit my fender a few years back and when I talked with her insurance people they asked if my car was Si model, lol. Gave me a good laugh.

I'm not sure but I thought that there where different hubs/axels & brakes up front on a std, and the DX/Si had the same setup as far as those areas went. The rear speakers where an option that not many people got. They would go in the left and right plastic panels out side of the removable cargo cover. The panels that accept the speakers are a completely different design though.

I always felt that a good place to put some rear speakers would be above the back seat arm rests below the windows. There's plenty of room there, you would probably be able to fit some 6x9's with some custom work.
