Default Please help me identify my turbo.... engine into a mini! *pics*

hey Everyone,

Im from the UK and spoolinperformance is making me a custom log manifold and downpipe for my B18c4 turbo project. Im having no luck finding a turbo, i drove to the opposite end of England last week just to pick up this T28 turbo, but have just found out that its not one that he can use

This is my turbo which is no good...

I cant afford the $840 + shipping cost of buying a brand new turbo from him (wish i could afford it id love a new one), and this is the second turbo ive bought so far to find out its no good.

I am putting my turbo honda engine into my mini, and i have asked him to copy this manifold here as i dont have much room to spare.

Im a bit stuck really, i really want spoolinperformance to build my manifolds because their work is so impressive and i have paid already, but i cant afford to buy another new turbo and it costs too much to send my 'wrong' turbo to him ($150 postage), does anyone on here have for sale a good condition turbo which he can work with? or maybe an exhaust housing for my turbo that has a compatable flange for him to work with? I can paypal!

Thank you
james

Is there a common type of garrett internal wastegate turbo over there in usa? there seems to be so many over here in the UK, and i think thats where im going wrong. I think, if i knew what kind of T28 to look for ill be able to buy the right one, if its not possible to convert the housing on mine,

thanks and sorry for all the questions

hey ok thanks! ill measure them all tonight and post the results courier companes costs still as high, im going to try fedex UK tomorow but i need an account for them to quote. The best solution i think though would be to buy a turbo that spoolinperformance is familiar with so its easy for him too.

thank you!!

I don't understand your question. Why are you buying turbo's on a whim? If you have something you really have to use, wouldn't it be easy to take some cardboard, make a template of the turbo flange and email/snail mail it to him so he can have the proper flange cut.

Seems like a pretty simple solution to me, unless I am completely missing the problem?

Cool build though. Always wanted to do something like that.

It's because spoolinperformance are making the turbo sit as close to the block as possible, like in the one in the photos above. He wants the turbo i am going to use to be in front of him so he can measure up and make new flanges i think, or for me to choose a turbo that he already has over there so he can measure up.

I was trying to make it easier for him by buying a turbo he is familier with, and to save on the massive extra postage costs of sending mine over there.

Thanks
james

crazy thought... have you looked into some kind of mold options? I mean, make a mold of your turbo mock up the flange as suggested above, and then send that??? I'm not sure what the best stuff would be to use, however, I'm sure there is some type of material you could use to make a mold of your turbo housing so the spacing could be figured out...

just a thought! and it would certainly save on shipping!

nice sounding project btw!

we have a right hand drive mini that we are putting a b20 into, by far the biggest nightmare i have had to deal with. Id like to fly to where ever the guys who own minitech are and punch them in the face. Their complete sub frame swap is no where near complete, and it takes forever to get **** out here. Any ways we ended up extending the front end and makeing a fiberglass front end and fit the greddy turbo kit in their. Wow i went off on quite the rant their. Good luck with your build
