stock replacement clutch or high performance?
hey guys my clutch took a dump at 35,00 miles on my 2006 civic si.... dealer qouted me at about $1500.00 dollars!!! I'm like you're f*** crazy! clutch would cost me $800.00!! LOL... and labor would cost 700.00!!! another LOL! now IMO I think that honda is under clutching the si's... I've been driving manual cars all of my life and this is the first time a clutch has died on me so early. This is my daily driver so I take good care of it and drive normally. three years and 35k mi!
I have a dilemma here and in need of some advice.I kinda don't want to put a stock replacement from honda because of their build quality but its cheaper upfront.
I'm also considering a stage 1 clutch like an exedy for their higher tolerances of abuse and higher performance but more expensive.
what would you guys reccommend?

99% of the time when a clutch gets worn early, it's from driver error. are you resting your foot on the clutch pedal when driving by any chance? you might get shorter life out of an aftermarket clutch, fyi. if you're going aftermarket, exedy clutch's are pretty good quality. i wouldn't go above stage 1.

$438.99 for the parts from this site....and that's WITH a new flywheel. The labor is justified though. Takes quite a while to get the transmission down and back into the vehicle.
$800 bucks just for parts sounds like dealer profit at it's finest.
If you really want the stock clutch back in the car.....get a printout with part numbers from the quote they gave you and order the parts yourself from the site....then take them to the dealer and have them put on.

There should never be any extra "service fee" for bringing in your own certified Honda replacement part because it isn't an inconvenience to the dealership to do so. You're still paying the labor so you are paying to have a service performed....if I got turned down for that I would raise absolute hell right up the chains until the advisor ***** him/herself. And then MAYBE i'll back off.

I got 145,000 miles on my original clutch, then tried to save money and did not have it replaced with OEM parts. I paid $600 instead of $900. Then it squeeked, alot.
I learned, you can not go wrong with Acura/Honda OEM parts.

This makes no sence either you have a problem with the clutch or maybe the rear main oil seal or you idea of easy driving and not beating on a car and mine are really diff. To lose a clutch in 3 years and 35,000 miles is insaine. You are either riding it, stop light racing or your slipping the **** out of it pulling out or on hills. I don't know might be able to get it covered under warranty if there is an oil leak or something like that but I don't think they normaly cover clutchs under the power train warranty
I say go OEM. I've heard of so many weird problems with every brand of aftermarket clutch, not everyone does but some. My buddy went through one in a year, he's not the best driver but still.
