The request for a rally forum got me thinking: does anyone have anything they'd like to see different around here? Before I hear a million replies (hell, I've complained enough about it myself...), nothing can be done for the search function. I'm looking for suggestions for improvements, additions, etc. Other than being a little bored, I don't really have any personally, but thought maybe you guys/gals do.
Among other things, I had talked with Ken awhile ago about getting a H&N restraint FAQ thing set up, and I'll be working on that at some point.

Quite possibly an FAQ section, will help beginners to have an insight into Auto-x/HPDE and other racing events.
I understand seat time is the best way to learn and get experience but the FAQ section can help provide answers in relevance to questions regarding suspension set-ups, trans/engine work, rules & regulations, etc...
Just a suggestion....

When searching, always use ADVANCED SEARCH.
When using combinations of words, try to list them in the order they'd appear in a thread or title, and enclose them in quotation marks the way that you would when searching Google.
As a last resort, you can use Google to search Honda-Tech by using the site: command on Google.

I mentioned it in some other thread, but yes, proper instructions on HOW to search correctly would be beneficial to everyone. Do you know of one that's been written up? The old one with screenshots and so on was great.
We really do need a good FAQ topic. We get a lot of posts from newbs who are interested in starting out in RR/AX, and don't know where to begin. It would be great to lay all of that out - give them some overall advice, as well as links to references on what to do with your car, what to expect, etc.
Some forums have one combined, stickied topic with FAQ and Rules, covering any FAQ as well as rules for overall forum behavior, with specifics beyond the general rules in the Terms of Service.

I do a lot of searching on here with misc autox questions whether it be tires, brakes, or whatever and while I usually find stuff it takes going through a lot of results, having a good (well decent) sticky like the 92-00 forum would be extremely helpful imho.
<-- Very new to autox, no rr experience.
(Literally just receive first SCCA magazine last week :p)

Ok, so what exactly would you guys want to see in the FAQ? Off the top of my head, I've got:
-Various parts information (tires, brakes, suspension, etc.)
-How to get started autoxing/HPDEing
-Who to talk to you in your area (various regional organizations)
-Descriptions of activities (what IS autoxing, etc)
-Track/lot etiquette/rules
-Competitive information (rules, how to get licensed, etc)
-Safety stuff (rollcages, harnesses, etc)

Yeah, it got removed in the forum changeover, but it's still floating around in the ether somewhere. Unfortunately, a lot of the links are also dead I think, so it'll require some rebuilding. If anyone has any particular threads/links they'd like to be included (outside of super basic stuff, like NASA.com or SCCA.com or whatever) feel free to PM them to me (but don't post them in this thread, or it'll get deleted...some ToS BS...).
FAQ: I have some kind of a technical question about car setup.
FGA (Frequently given answer): Stay stock. You need more "seat time".
FAQ2: But you didn't answer my question...
FGA2: Get stickier tires. Take a HPDE class.

This needs to be re-stickied:

)But as far as seat time, I'm signed up for autox Sunday, and if all goes well, I'll be at next weekend's event as well (should have the new tires then)!
edit: scratch this, car totaled.
-----------------------------------------
Anyway!
I really think you should just break the FAQ down in sections:
Newbs (perhaps break down the newb section for getting in to autox, rr, etc):
getting in to events blah blah
what are the clubs blah blah
Classing <-- important, this has been the center of a lot of my research, what mods are legal in what classes. GSR swapped Civic in autox I've found out kinda sucks since it's street mod, but all well I'm still a novice anyway.
Brakes:
Are bigger brakes needed on my x car?
What about my rear drums?
Pads?
Rotors?
Slotted/drilled/blank discussion thread
Tires/wheels:
x vs. y blah blah
Tire fitment
wheel offsets
fender rolling
etc
Suspension:
brands / options
full coilovers vs. strut + ground controls
spring rates
Now the faq should pertain to RR/AX, but the articles may lie in their respective subforum as well. I mean there is no reason not to link to a thread in the Suspension forum if it answers the question relating to RR/AX, but of course involves suspension.
All my opinions.

While i think this is a great idea, it doesn't seem very practical. First I'll start with classing, the SCCA does an awesome job in their rule book to explain the different classes. Also there are a few other series out there too like Honda Challange, where classing my be different, i really don't know so i won't say for sure. It seems like this would be very specific information to the group that you were running with. And every group will have their own track rules also, it just seems like there is so much information to cover it could get out of hand. I also think this because i see repeats also, like suspension for instance. There is a suspension forum already and tires, i dont know why a faq for something pertaining to them would not be in it's own fourm. And not that i didn't need it at some point, but if someone is really interested in doing this with their car i think they need to go through the steps and research. Bottom line what you need for auto-x, is to show up with an open mind. And what you need for HPDE is tires, brakes, and to show up with an open mind. But i know most of you know that have posted cuz most of you helped me start, and i think that most of you pointed me in the right direction. So thanks for the help, it's been great. This is by far the best fourm on HT.
