Stock brake pads SUCK ASS
i was coming home tonight nd cruising through this park between the highway and my house (4 lights on the way) and in my civic, i can beat the tar out of the brakes (legend / raybestos) and i was in an ITR and i got BIGTIME fade while coming to the stop sign at the end of the run. not even a mile and a half stretch. wow, the stock pads are simply GARBAGE!
sure i am going a bit faster in the R, but max braking is max braking. and it's about 5 braking zones for me culminating in the final stop at the stop sign. the fade set in at the brake zone before the stop sign and was very bad by the time i got to the stop sign. any explanation then for fade after a few stops? "driver fade" and "going faster and using the same braking point" still do not explain the atrociouse pads on the R from the factory, or do they???"
well, something is definitely wrong then. might be time to change the fluid ... pads sure smelled though. maybe owner never bedded them in correctly. ... let me say that this experience came as a surprise to me ...

6 20 minute sessions @ thunderhill in 90 deg weather. no fade. i highly doubt your brakes were fading.
we ashed some stock pads on button willow. Speedpaks car with stock tires and about 7-8 HARD sessions in the first day (2 drivers).
No way you shoudl see brake fade from a few hard stops on the streets. You mentioned a previous owner . . . bet they weren't stock pads.

Must not be stock pads. I've stood down on the brakes from over 130 and I didn't notice fade.
Stood on mine several times today and not a sign of fade.
Mine have 25,000 miles and 1 season of X on them.
In short; they don't "Suck ***" as you say.

AFAIK, ALL brake pads work this way, not just the ITR stock pads.
You can heat cycle pads on the street the same way - go on an empty road and do a bunch of really HARD stops in a row until you get the pads to fade. Take it home, do it again later, and after that, the pads shouldn't fade at all.
I would bet the ITR you drove had never gotten that set of brake pads really hot before. That would explain it.
BTW, I think the stock ITR brake pads are pretty darn good.
GSR brakes fade like a howling *****. But I have yet to experience fade in any ITR. (I've owned 2 and driven a few others) I think someone swapped some NAPA pads into your friends R.

If you can't fade the stock pads on the track you're not braking nearly hard enough

I sometimes go for "spirited" drives through the back roads of Bucks County, and one hot June afternoon I came to a fast stop at the bottom of a long downhill, and I had really bad fade, the pedal wasn't going to the floor, just no more stopping power. I got out and I saw huge clouds of white smoke pouring from the front pads. I jumped back in, and drove real easy for about 3 minutes to cool the brakes, and they went back to normal. No problems since. The point here is that I was just about abusive to those pads, and they held up quite well. They're good for a stock pad. Try that in your moms Taurus...
I was doing some spiritual driving one day and I had brake fade pretty bad and luckily there was a asphalt runoff around this turn or I would have been in the woods.
Just happened once.
