Intermittent clutch slip EP3
I just bought an 02 EP3 with 114k miles and the clutch slips only sometimes. It either slips or doesn't at all. When it doesn't slip which is most of time I can beat the **** out of it grabbing gears and cant get it to slip. But when it is slipping it does it in any gear. When I press on the gas it will rev up a couple thousand more than it should (slipping) and just stay there until the wheels catch up. I haven't found anything that I can link it to, temperature of the car or outside, it does it after Ive been driving for awhile and it did when I first started it up for the day. I have paperwork from the PO showing the clutch, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing being replaced at 90k miles. Any ideas?
If the clutch is slowly slipping its because its starting to go!
Also if you are trying to make the clutch slip on purpose well you are causing extra wear to it... so that isn't helping!
I believe it comes down to driving... maybe you are being to hard on the clutch or you are just using it up to quickly! Not saying you are a bad driver but we all drive differently so things will get used differently... My clutch on my EG wouldn't last for more then 15k just because I was very hard on it from DD it and Tracking it all the time...

I am pretty easy on it. But I just bought it about a month ago and I'm not sure how the previous owner drove it. Some older guy, its bone stock but he could have just put alot of wear on it.
I always thought when the clutch is going out that it goes out gradually or all of a sudden if the pressure plate fails or something. This is either all or nothing its slips really bad or not at all.

a good way to test you clutch is when you are cruising on the highway put in fifth gear at 60 and push the gas pedal down and see if she starts pulling or the rev just start going up with the speed staying the same... try that a couple of times and see what happens but I am sure the clutch is done.
If you do change the clutch I would do an Exedy stage 1 clutch with a lighter flywheel, not to light but a little lighter.

Thats the thing... most of the time on the highway in 5th gear I can WOT and its fine. But maybe once every week or so it will slip real bad. If i park it and let it sit for a few hours then itll stop and wont do it again for another week or so.
Hmm I'm not sure what the problem is.
I had a similar problem on my old Integra where the clutch would slip occassionally, but that was due to massive boost creep and colder air temperatures
She didn't like the WOT highway pulls in the middle of winter hehehe.

It started slipping today on the highway so I shot a vid of it. That's 5th gear 0 throttle then WOT.

Last night it wasn't slipping at all. Went to the track and ran it a couple times. 15.8 @87 was my best but I couldn't launch it, 2.4 60 ft. But anyway it didn't slip at all even at the track. This just doesn't seem like the clutch is going from normal wear.
