Necessary for sealant on spark plug tube + gasket?

I'm replacing the valve cover gasket, grommets, and spark plug seals. Is it necessary to use sealant on the gasket and spark plug seals? Some say yes, some say no....

You only need sealant in certain areas on the gasket, near the corners of the cam caps. The tube seals do not need sealant.
