Default The Prelude Curse - Spun bearing v3.0

So finally after my ringlands giving out (spraying too much nitrous lol), my bearings finally went (again).

I found an F23 engine semi local to me. I will be doing a G23 hybrid motor. F23 block with an H23 head. Though all the previous builds are great, mine will be dead stock. No pistons, cams, or anything else for that matter. Though I might send the head to get new valve guides though.

We will see what a bone stock G23 can do. Compression Ratio should be about 9.3 (perfect for nitrous).

Sorry to hear about the engine problems. Good luck on the g23! How much no2 are you going to give it?

Yea, I'm hoping this G23 will work out well. Just trying to source an F22 water pipe and engine mount.

I'm not sure yet. Probably stick with a 50 or 75 shot. once I get it tuned i'll probably up it to 100

Ouch. That really sucks. Glad to see you're going all hybrided. I'll say 150 to the wheel with low compression and minimal tuning. Depending on how much of a hurry you're in I'll have an F22A1 mount and hard coolant pipe for sale...

^yea I've been planning going hybrid for a while....I'm still deciding, but i might see about throwing some k20 pistons in. The only thing hard to afford right now is tuning and and a chipped ECU....

With 2.3 liter displacement, stock cams and low compression you could probably just run the P14 ecu and not worry about tuning.

If you jump the compression and monkey with cams then it's probably taking a bigger risk not tuning.

^ yea, for now I'm sticking to the P14. I wouldnt bump up compression much without tuning

Argh. I need to get my motor in. I'm leaving mine bone stock as well. For a while at least. Planning to run it on a stock p14. Of course mine is going in a civic, not a prelude. Should be plenty of torque to move it around for now. I'll post some pics and updates soon...

What's causing the lack of motivation Sam? It's been a whille that that engine's been collecting dust.

Well I picked up my F23A1 today! Has some extra goodies!

AEM Fuel rail
XTD clutch (not sure which one though)
It might have a lightweight flywheel too (again, not sure)
I think there is also an AEM cam gear
unorthadox pullies.

I pulled off the Valve cover and it looks like a new engine! SOOOO clean

I'll update with pics soon

Alright here are some pics!

I just want to point out the fact that I have never done anything as close to as technical as this. The most technical thing i've ever done is a brake job....lol. This whole thing is a big learning experience for me. I'm pretty sure I can do the majority of it no problem. The only thing I'm "uneasy" about is the axles and setting the timing

How I got the motor

AEM Fuel Rail

popped off the valve cover

Stock Roller Rockers? wow

AEM Cam gear

Clutch

took the clutch off

Enough meat?

Cylinders walls look really clean too

The only thing is there is a lot of carbon buildup

Nice score on those parts! The alternator pulley and flywheel look good (get those ring gear teeth off the concrete!), and you could probably reuse the clutch, pressure plate, and head gasket if you're on a budget. I don't think any of the other stuff will fit a H23 though. Thanks for the pics!

thanks man. I'll probably just sell the head as a whole. I'm still not sure if there is a stock cam or not....

Yea the ring gear isnt on the concrete anymore. I have a tire under it now....

I might use the this clutch or take the clutch off my H23 now. Head gasket is being reused. I'm definatly grabbing a new H23 timing belt though.

I'll be taking lots of pics during the process...

well, I'm going to start the engine removal on my H23 from my car. Hopefully I can get it all out today... I'd like to have at least the engine put together and ready to go in the car by the end of Friday.

I found out I'm going to be going to the east coast (Charlotte) the whole month of June. I really hope I can get this finished by then.

Well good progress today. Get everything torn out. Took about 6 hours. The Lower ball joints gave me a little headache, but a quick run to Harbor Freight for a ball joint separator solved the problem.

I have tomorrow off, i'm spending it with my girl. Friday I have to work....Hopefully I get time to do all this.

You're making more progress on your build than I am. Those ball joints can be a bear. A friend showed me how to use a 2 jaw bearing puller to pop them of. Pickle forks always ruin the seal.

I got a pickle fork, but after standing on it and the ball joint not popping off, I decided to get one of these (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=99849). Its the tool thats in the helms.

the axles also gave me a little trouble, but they eventually slipped out.

I just really hope I can get this done before I leave in just over a week so its not sitting for a month

I found a video on youtube showing how to remove the lower ball joints without a ball joint removal tool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISY8bGof3bQ

You have the car on stands, the tire off, and you remove the cotter pin and the castle nut.

Jack the suspension up, to compress the suspension as if there was a load on it.

Grab the largest hand wrench or socket wrench handle that will fit in-between the gap (between the hub and the lower control arm).

Lower the jack down, and if it still didn't pop, put your foot on top of the wheel assembly and give it a little kick downwards.

It works like a charm and it takes only minutes to do. I had both ball joints released and both driveshafts removed out of the transmission in under an hour (would have been less if I wasn't showing the process to a friend).

Had to remove the tranny to do a clutch job.

EDIT:
I just found a WHOLE thread in the forums about this exact procedure. I found this procedure while looking for the ball join tool on google. I'm glad it's on this forum as well! Awesome method.

Ok let me get something straight, I know its a noobie question but how would you time a g23. So you cant really go by the tdc, am i correct? Is there a writeup on howto do this build?

^any crankshaft can be at TDC.

you have to use the H23 timing gear. read through this thread (https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-prelude-4/f22b2-block-h22a1-head-f22-vtec-f22b-vtec-776837/) It has a lot of info
