Default For people w/ Fuel Pump Switch Security System

In a lot of the stolen car threads people post about how they have their car setup so when ever they leave it they hit a switch that cuts off the power to the fuel pump. I think this is a great idea but I have a question first. I've always heard that running your car empty hurts your car in two ways. First you suck all the crum out of the bottom of your tank and secondly you run air through your fuel injectors. How much of this crap is true? And if running your injectors dry hurts them then is accidently starting your car with the power to the fuel pump off going to hurt it? Thanks

You should always wait for the fuel system to pressurize (check engine light going off with a click of the relay) before starting the car. As well as never taking the car past its 1/4 empty level. If you do happen to take it below that, its a good idea to throw in some injector cleaner, or fuel system cleaner in the tank.

The fuel pump pulls fuel from the very bottom of the tank anyways. You don't need to use any cleaner or additive stuff.

You don't have to let the car pressurize the fuel lines, but it will probably start easier if you do.

And no, it does not hurt anything to have a fuel pump cut switch.

I have seen peoples cars where they use thier Cig Lighter as the switch for the cut off. When the lighter is in place the circut is complete and when it's removed it's disabled. I just thought this was cool and wanted to share it with everyone.

really?? thats pretty interesting, wouldn't be that hard to do either. just put a positive connection inside the lighter and a positive connector in the console, put it in and it completes the circut, or you could even just put switch that the cig. lighter pushes.

anyone else have some good ideas on where to put the switch so thats its not that visible?
I also want to have it so that if someone else is in th car with me while im hitting the switch, it wont be that noticible

i dont know either man. i emailed that guy from the clubsi thread and he couldnt get it working with the black wire next to the yellow fuel power wire. so i guess thats not the ground.

i havent done this switch yet because ive heard bad things about switching the power wire.

i did this security mod this weekend. first thing i did was cut the black wire, then started the car. turned the key, fuel pump 'pumped', and then started car with no problem. so that's NOT the wire to use.

spliced the yellow wire per instructions, ran wire to switch mounted to a super secret spot. works perfect - when pump is switched off, car will start but almost immediately dies and can't restart (don't do that too many times). flip switch, turn key two clicks, let pump prime, then start - turns right over.

you just have to remember to turn it back on when you get in - it will become habit.

some people talk about an inline fuse, but i didn't use one. just be careful, route wire smoothly with slack. TEKEN has some great, albeit confusing to the less-than-professional installer, tips and information.

You guys are talking about the use of a relay am I correct? Or are you just talking about a switch that just interrupts the power to the pump?

so you need diodes too? i don't know too much about cars but i figured that, all you really needed for the fuel pump mod was put a switch inline to the power source for the pump. can anyone tell me wassup on why a diode/relay/or anything else would be needed for this mod? thanx

i don't really want to discuss how to disable my kill switch.. so all I am saying is to be creative in your switch placement.. think if you were a car thief.. where you would look for a switch.. then DON'T put it there...

luckily i have a 94 sol, so w/o the key, it would be impossible to get to the trunk but, it's gunna be a hassle on my part to open the trunk everytime.

I hope your not planning to put your kill switch in the trunk.. because then thats pretty obvious.. if the theif is stalking you for a few days to see your schedule/habits.. so he can strike when your most likely not going to be around your car (based on your schedule) .... its pretty obvious when he see's that EVERYTIME you get out of, or get into the car.. you open the trunk and flick something.. it will be especially obvious if you leave the house w/ NOTHING to put in the trunk.. but you open it anyway and reach your hand in or whatever... I think it'd be pretty obvious to the theif that you have a kill switch there.... and thus defeating the purpose...

so if its something inside the cabin that you have to reach for.. someone stalking you can probably tell your reaching for a kill switch also... make it hidden but accessible.. so its not obvious from people looking outside that your reaching for something everytime you park, or get in to start the car..

the reason i said "luckily i have a delsol" is because the only way to get into the trunk is w/ a key. '94 delsol's didn't come w/ the remote switch to unluck the trunk from inside the cabin

I hear most Integras or hatches in general are broken in from the trunk. Is there something I can do to minimize this, but I guess its just as hard or easy as coming in from the doors... is there a hood lock type of thing that can be used for the trunk??

yes the yellow is the 12v power wire for the fuel pump. however, i had heard that it was unsafe to switch the power wire and that you should always interrupt on the ground wire. but that black wire next to the yellow doesnt seem to work..

just use a inline 20amp fuse with the fuel pump and you should be ok. Make sure your switch is rated 15amps or more.

so do you even need a kill switch if you put an inline fuse to it? Just take out the fuse and it wont work rite? or do u put an inline fuse before the switch?

I locked my keys in the trunk of my sol one time ...the locksmith opened it in about 2 mins.
