Has anyone modified the 96-98 rear mud guards to fit on a 99-00 rear bumper?
i have an em1 that i want to put splash gaurds on. well im sure most of you know that Honda discontinued them for pre 00 models. I cant find a used set anywhere. all i can find are 96-98 front/rear gaurds for coupes/sedans. i know that the 96-98 fronts will fit, but from research...96-98 rears will not.

**** i bought some 96-98 mudguards for my 97 civic. But unfortunately i didnt know i had a 99-00 rear bumper. Now i installed them but they dont flare right. They kind of pop out. So i believe trimming is the only way. Just havent done it. Funny though i called my local HONDA dealer and they said they can get me a pair of 99-00 mudguards. Which is my plan now to buy new ones and sell my 96-98 ones. Weird how you cant get them and i was offered them. All i do know is they are Special Order.
I'd sell the '96-'98 ones to someone with a '96-'98 and then seek out the '99-'00 ones. It might take you a little bit to find them, but that's with any discontinued item.

I decided to go ahead and purchase the 96-98 mud guards for my EM1. i had to do some trimming to the rears but i think the fit looks pretty good. Heres a pic to show others that if they can not find guards for their 99-00, the previous years guards will fit with some minor work.

all i used was an angle grinder fitted with an abrasive disk and some coarse sand paper to finish the burs. it can be done using common household tools, but this was the quickest way. the only place that needed trimming was the sloping face that is visible in the picture where the guard meets the bumper. only a small amount of material is taken off. once u place ur guards in place you'll be able to see where the trimming is needed. everything else lines up perfectly, but you may have to redrill the lower mounting hole on the edge of the bumper...which is not a big deal. if more info is needed, just ask.
for those of you who are wondering what area needs some trimming...here is a pic that shows the only area that i trimmed on each guard (hump in center of circle). i only took a little bit off. if you look at your guard you'll notice that if you take too much off, you will end up will a hole.
Well i kinda ended up with a hole on one side
but im happy with the results...i used a dremmel with a sand paper attachment ..just sanded away little by little until the hump was kinda gone

i think i might do this cuz i cant find em as well. But can anyone with a 99--00 civic post a pic without modifying theyre 99-00 mud guard to bumper?
Thanks
Thanks
