Coolant flush
whats up guys i was wondering if anyone could give me a run down on a coolant flush for a 93 ex coupe? using oem coolant. want to make sure it is done right
It depends on what motor you have, not what car you have. On OBD1 motors there's a bleed screw that you bleed the air bubbles from, and on OBD2 cars there's no bleed screw.
1. Put heater control all the way to on.
2. Remove drain bolt on bottom of radiator and once coolant stops pouring out, put the drain bolt back on.
3. Remove the rear drain bolt on back of block right next to the oil filter (I think it's a 28mm bolt). Let the coolant drain from there. Put a new washer and put the drain bolt back on.
4. Fill the radiator with coolant to the base of the radiator filler neck. If you don't have a premixed coolant, you have to mix 50% coolant and 50% water (some use distilled water, some use tap water; do what you like; the argument is that distilled water is better than tap water).
5. Turn the car on and run it until it warms up and the fan comes on 2 times. Once the car cools (don't open the radiator cap before the car cools or you might burn yourself), fill it up to the base of the neck again with coolant+water mix.
6. Now, on 92-95 motors, there's a bleed screw where the top radiator hose meets the head. Use that to bleed air from the cooling system. On 96-00 motors, you don't have to do anything.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until there's no more air in the cooling system.
Notes: Make sure you have coolant+water mix in your coolant reserve bottle between the min and max marks on the bottle. Also, make sure that after you drain all the air in the cooling system, that you add coolant+water mix one last time to the radiator so that it's filled up to the base of the radiator filler neck.
