CRX HF or DX half shaft
Hi,
I have a 1988 CRX DX that I swapped a 1988 HF transmission into. The problem now is that my passenger side outer cv joint is going bad. I know I should replace the gaskets in the transmission but what half shaft should I order at a parts place? A regular 1988 DX half shaft or some kind of hybrid to mix the two together? I know that I can't order an HF half shaft because it mates to a smaller hub, but I don't know if I will have any length or spline problems.

b series have equal length cv axles. Driver's side has a midshaft.
D sohc series have a longer driver's side cv axle. what gaskets in the transmission are you talking about replacing? If i remember correctly, DX and HF 5-speed hubs are the same size.

I need to replace the seal where the cv shaft connects to the transmission. Also I'm not sure if the car was came stock with a 4 or 5 speed manual (I'm not sure if this affects anything). I still don't know what the difference between a half shaft and a cv shaft is.
Sorry, I don't really know much about the ZC engines. I went straight to B's.

Generally speaking, all the USDM 88-91 axles have the same spline count on the tranny side. The difference between the axles is on the hub/knuckle side. CRX HF and Civic STD (4spd) have a lower spline count. Having said that, you match the axles to the hubs/knuckles being used which in your case are DX hubs/knuckles.
**FYI the DX/EX/Si knuckles share the same spline count if you haven't already made the connection.

Thank you for that response. I know what part I need for my crx. But now I have one more question.
Is the Civic STD (4spd) that you are referring to the automatic or the 4spd manual?
