only two things make it not work, the signal wire from the dizzy or the guage cluster

I recently learned that 99-00 Civics get the tach signal through a blue wire from the ECU rather than from the ICM in the distributor. This could be the problem.

That's the $64,000 question. Not sure what ECU or wire harnesses that you are using. For 99-00 Civics, the tach signal comes from the ECU on a blue wire through connector C442:

You need an ICM with a blue tach wire or a 99-00 ECU with a blue tach wire.

Here's a question for you guys:

I have a 2000 Honda Civic DX/Auto (Bone Stock)

The stock cluster doesn't have a tach, can I swap my cluster for a 00 Civic EX/LX/Auto and will the tach work automatically; or will I have to do some hardwiring? Thanks!

So if I have a 99 civic and I am using the obd2b -obd1 harness and a PO6 I will need a 96-01 b16 distributor and tap the blue engine speed wire to the body harness tach wire? Does anyone know which wire is currently running to my tach?

Nevermind it works!!!

Okay thought id explain this since I finally figured it out. Heres my setup:

1999 civic 4dr, d16y8, 5 speed
OBD2B - OBD1 conversion harness
Neptune software

MY INSTRUCTIONS

If you take the distributor cap, rotor and cover off you will see a spare male terminal on the ignitor (next to the rotor shaft), simply run a wire from that spare terminal to the blue deadend plug with the black weather cover over it on the driverside strut tower by the hood prop and BAM!! The tach will work.

You can plug in a 96-2000 LX or EX cluster straight in. CR-V clusters will too. You can either use a auto with the gear indicators or a manual. The Auto clusters are in less demand so are generally less expensive. Browse the marketplace forums. You can get them on ebay but don't pay too much for one, especially an auto cluster.
